Position Summary
The Senior Project Engineer position is a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with a focus on product development. This role is responsible for supporting all efforts related to the design, development, and integration of mechanical systems into our oven products. In this role, you will work with a cross-functional team to design and implement ideas using CAD models, drawings, cost estimates, prototyping, and testing products. The Senior Project Engineer will gather product requirements and translate them into actionable specifications and is able to design them into a finished product.
Join a growing Tovala brand and evolve our products that bring convenience to customers across the country. This Senior Project Engineer will be working within the Oven Development team. As a senior project engineer you will be leading fast paced, complex projects from cradle to grave.
Location: Chicagoland or Champaign-Urbana area
How you'll spend your time at Tovala
Generate and refine design solutions to identified product and regulatory requirements, formalize designs with the use of CAD tools
Support the creation of project definition and execution of all project phases in accordance with the defined stage gate process
Identify and communicate technical risks and propose mitigation plans
Structure and conduct required testing with the support of internal and external resources
Use formal tools such as Six Sigma, DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM, and FEA
Prepare and present project updates as part of the product development process
Support other oven initiatives including the resolution of quality issues and productivity initiatives
Coordinate manufacturing plan across multiple global suppliers
Research and review IP related to competitive landscape and oven initiatives
Required Skills
5-10+ years of relevant experience
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or some similar Engineering
Experience in design/manufacturing of injection molding, casting, sheet metal fabrication is preferred
Moderate competence in at least one area is required
Strong teamwork and motivation skills are required
Preferred skills
Master’s Degree in relevant Engineering
Six Sigma Black Belt
Project Management experience
Experience in the appliance or consumer goods industries
