The Communications Consultant is responsible for planning, writing and coordinating a wide variety of provider communications. This includes responsibility for providing strategic communications counsel, writing and editing, and working with a project manager on design and production, as needed.

The consultant is involved in complex projects as the provider communications lead for assignments and campaigns. They may work in partnership with a marketing specialist on projects that require marketing deliverables.

They must express themselves well, take a leadership role when working with a group, and be a strong writer and editor. The specialist must be adept in communications planning and implementation, and have experience juggling multiple priorities and handling time-sensitive communications.

The consultant will be expected to actively participate in various work groups and committees throughout the organization to ensure that issues/programs affecting care providers are communicated effectively via the appropriate communications channels. The consultant will be essential in helping internal business partners make the shift from paper to digital communications.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create, implement and manage communications plans and creative briefs
  • Write, edit and proofread a variety of communications
  • Collaborate with and offer expert communications counsel to stakeholders
  • Guide internal business partners to make the shift from paper communications to digital
  • Work with complex issues and serve as a resource to others
  • Work independently with minimal supervision

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications-related field
  • 7+ communications experience with an emphasis on writing/editing (must be proficient in AP Style)
  • 5+ years of experience developing, implementing and managing strategic communication plans
  • 5+ years of experience writing for a digital environment, including copywriting, web copy, emails, social media, etc. with a solidunderstanding of digital writing best practices
  • Experience working in a professional business environment and interacting with executives
  • Experience using a project management platform to manage projects
  • Experience working with external creative agencies
  • Expert MS Word skills and experience/proficiency with Microsoft office suite
  • Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) techniques and its role in content creation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop strategic messaging and solutions and provide expert communications counsel
  • Proven record of writing and editing performance (writing samples will be requested)
  • Enthusiasm for working collaboratively as part of a team

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
