Brandeis University Undergraduate Admissions is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director. This person will promote the University through both on and off campus recruitment programs, which include public presentations. As part of the Admissions team, this person will work in support of the University mission as we strive to recruit a class that reflects the heterogeneity of the United States and of the world community. This role will lead development of strategic external partnerships with organizations supporting college access and preparation for marginalized populations in addition to being a key point of contact for community-based partner organizations. This staff member will create recruitment plans and manage a recruitment territory, building relationships with prospective students and their families, school counselors and community representatives. All recruitment plans and professional relationships should reflect Brandeis' values of inclusivity, diversity and equity. This role requires cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence, as the individual develops working knowledge of high school curriculums, interviews prospective students, and equitably evaluates undergraduate applications. This person will serve as a key member of the selection team and supports the overall execution of strategic departmental and institutional enrollment goals.


Key Responsibilities:




  • Manage recruitment territory- including travel, college fairs, receptions, information sessions, high school visits and virtual outreach.




  • Conduct holistic review of all first-year and transfer applications from the assigned recruitment region and be an active participant in committee.




  • Work in collaboration with the Senior Associate Director on recruitment strategies targeting underrepresented and historically marginalized populations.




  • Maintain and grow formal and informal partnerships with community-based organizations.




  • Serve as the department point of contact for POSSE applicants and coordinate admissions staff and faculty review of POSSE applications.




  • Present information sessions on-campus and off-campus and serves as resource for campus visitors on an on-going basis.




  • As a member of the selection team, assist counseling staff as needed to support various projects and programs, as determined by the supervisor and the cyclical needs of the office.




  • Conducts interviews with candidates for admission.




  • Travel 3-6 weeks in the fall and 1-2 weeks in the spring, including some nights and weekends.




Educations & Requirements:




  • Bachelor's degree required




  • 2+ years related work experience




What you need to succeed:




  • Skill and sensitivity to issues of diversity, equity and inclusion as they affect the college admissions process; a demonstrated commitment to building a strong and diverse applicant pool, and a critical awareness of how systemic economic and racial inequity in students' secondary school backgrounds impacts their application to college.




  • Strong process management skills; organizational skills; problem solving, and decision making.




  • Must be organized, an excellent communicator and collaborator, with the ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines. Ability to build strong relationships with admissions staff and constituents across campus and be a team player.




  • Computer skills - proficiency with Microsoft applications required; Slate Technolutions and Workday preferred.




  • Previous work in undergraduate admissions is desired.




  • A valid driver's license is required.




  • Evening and weekend work are necessary during key recruitment periods.

The Admissions Office works in a hybrid fashion with exceptions for certain periods of the year. Typically two scheduled remote days per week are planned after the first three months of employment. We have one day each week when all staff are scheduled to be on-campus.
