The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Software Engineer, you will be part of a growing team of engineers that drives the development of the conversational core of our Natural Language Understanding platform. The person hired for the position will have a direct impact on pushing the limits of the state of the art in conversational technology and will develop and improve features that will be immediately visible to our customers. The ideal candidate is both comfortable working in a design-driven and data-driven way and capable of tackling both larger projects as well as small customer-specific feature requests with a quick turn-around time. As a Software Engineer in the NLU team, you have the skills to analyze and manipulate large amounts of unstructured textual data and have a working knowledge of linguistic principles that allow you to derive rules and build models for automated analysis and data manipulation. You will become a contributing and collaborative member of a team of both technical and non-technical professionals working together to bring our 3M|M*Modal ambient documentation solution to market.

• Implement cutting edge Natural Language Understanding components to support a product changing the way physicians work by reducing the documentation burden


• Design both small-scale experimental projects, and large-scale customer facing projects


• Eagerly switch between different parts of the development stack faced on both personal interest and team need


• Collaborate with a team of software engineers and researchers committed to user-driven design


• Write automated tests to validate software solutions

Your Skills And Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution in computer science, software engineering, data science, information science, machine learning or related field and two (2) years of training/experience in natural language processing, software engineering, machine learning, data science and/or artificial intelligence.

OR

• High School Diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start) and six (6) years of experience in natural language processing, software engineering, machine learning, data science and/or artificial intelligence


• Two (2) years of experience with an object-oriented programming language or five (5) years of overall programming experience

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Collaborative development style with a focus on end-user value


• Masters’ degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, information science, machine learning or related field


• Experience in building natural language processing systems with a focus on conversational technology, dialogue systems and/or chatbot technology


• Knowledge of agile development methodologies


• Good understanding of object-oriented concepts and design patterns.


• Experience with health-care related terminology and interested in healthcare technology
