United Health Services is seeking an Operating Room Technician (Surgical Technologist) to join our surgical team at Binghamton General Hospital. Our Operating Room staff at Binghamton General Hospital (BGH) typically perform elective surgeries, which can include orthopedic, plastic, and ophthalmic procedures. The BGH Operating Room maintains a high-volume surgical schedule each day. In addition to a steady cadence of scheduled procedures, the BGH OR staff often encounter add-on or emergency cases, particularly those involving complex orthopedic repairs or reconstruction. Operating Room Technician Job Responsibilities Follows Infection Control policies and procedures and demonstrate expertise in surgical scrub technique Assists surgeons when needed by gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and other related items during procedures; anticipates the surgeons need for instruments, sutures, and equipment Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place while keeping an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with operating standards and identifies conflicts or problems Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient and displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemical, or gases) within the Operating Room Expedites the effective and efficient turn-over of the OR between cases Position Qualifications Required: Completion of a nationally accredited (CAAHEP or ABHES) Surgical Technology program (certificate or associates degree) and a Certified Surgical Technologist credential administered by a nationally accredited surgical technology credentialing organization Or completion of a surgical technology training program for the United States armed forces or Public Health Commissioned Corps Or experience as a Surgical Technologist in a healthcare facility for at least one cumulative year between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2014 CPR certification within three months of hire Preferred: Previous Operating Room experience Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist
