Job Purpose

In this role you will be responsible for the Gas Pipeline Safety Management, Risk Management and Safety Assurance elements per American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice #1173. This role also includes participation in monitoring of program effectiveness, and governance of Major Hazard Asset (MHA) Process Safety Management to ensure compliance with internal requirements. 

Key Accountabilities

• Understand the operations and maintenance of the Gas Pipeline business and how that applies to the pipeline safety function
• Liaise with internal stakeholders including the US Risk Group, US Assurance Group and US Process Safety Group
• Maintain risk assessment inventory and risk portfolio for pipeline safety risks in Gas risk registers – includes completing Compliance self-assessments as appropriate and second line testing of controls aligned to both key and management level risks
• Periodically assess business risk reduction activities to ensure progress 
• Become a contributor to Process Safety meetings and committees initiated by the US & UK Process Safety groups and disseminate information from these meetings to the Gas business
• Take responsibility for developing, maintaining and reporting the KPI (Key Process Indicators) for risk management and safety assurance to the business and corporate functions
• Become knowledgeable in the API RP 1173 standard and the 12 corporate Major Hazard Asset risk control standards and how and what Gas Operations is required to do to meet these standards

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

• Skilled in stakeholder management.
• Management reporting and presentation skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred
• 2+ years of practical experience in methods, processes, and techniques relevant to risk and controls 
• Proven engineering or project management and analytical skills
• Technical proficiency with Safety Management Systems and Microsoft Office preferred
• Strong understanding of API RP 1173, National Grid Risk Control Standards, OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.119, or other Safety/environmental management systems preferred
• Strong understanding of Gas pipeline operations and maintenance functions preferred
• Experience performing safety risk assessments and using other process safety tools preferred
• Proven ability to build effective, respectful, working relationships
• Valid driver's license required
