Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno, Division of Research and Innovation, is recruiting for a Director, Research Communications. This position is critical to identifying and developing opportunities for earned media and public/community affairs to advance the University’s reputation as a high impact research university.
The Director, Research Communications serves as the chief communications officer for Research and Innovation (R&I) on behalf of the University’s research enterprise. Working closely with the Vice President for Research and Innovation (VPRI) and the University’s Marketing and Communications Department (MARCOM), the Director develops and directs a communications strategy and program, including internal and external communication, media relations and social media, to advance the University’s research objectives, advocacy and reputation on the local, statewide and national levels. Establishing and maintaining an effective and audience-focused communication, organizational voice and consistent institutional messaging are priorities for the position. The Director manages collaborative communications opportunities with partner organizations and institutions, to include regional, state, federal, professional, other universities and industry, and key personnel. Serves as liaison to partner organizations and institutions as appropriate. The Director provides communications counsel to R&I leadership and to others across all units of the division and the University. The Director identifies and develops opportunities for earned media and public/community relations to advance the University’s reputation as a high impact research university. Develops research communication strategic plan that links to the University’s overall research enterprise positioning and overall marketing and communications plan
The successful candidate will have knowledge of journalistic writing and web-based marketing design, desktop publishing experience, an ability to manage and prioritize complex projects and tasks and work in a professional collaborative environment with diverse individuals.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years or Master’s Degree and three (3) years of related work experience.
Related Experience: Experience in communications, public relations and/or media relations management; multimedia strategic planning and implementation

Grants-in-Aid for Faculty Employees
The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate.
