GSSC is privately owned and locally operated, seeking an experienced Fire and Security Service Technician based out of Minneapolis to join our growing team! Founded in 1946, GSSC remains one of the largest privately held security companies in the Midwest.


Reporting to the EPG Operations Manager, the Fire & Security Service Technician is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electronic communication systems, and communicating system performance to the customer. They must meet the highest quality standards set forth by GSSC while working in the most efficient and effective manner to assure minimum down time and maximum performance.

Fire & Security Service Technician Job Responsibilities:

  • Installs and pulls wire as per specifications

  • Installs, mounts and wires equipment used in systems

  • Programming of systems

  • Tests all equipment after termination is made to ensure performance of system

  • Verifies signals, tests systems, and troubleshoots

  • Educates and trains customer on system operation and functionality

  • Communicates daily with Project Manager on delays, requirements, and general status of jobs

  • Ensures all jobs are executed within each phase’s estimate.

  • Collaborates with Sales, Systems Engineer, and Project Managers on change orders, compliant startup, and complete closeout and turnover of jobs to the Client

  • Manages individual truck stock inventory, materials, tools, and company equipment

  • Reads and interprets wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints

  • Redlines prints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints for as-builts

  • Complies fully with the safety programs of GSSC and the Client

  • Assists with preventative maintenance of customer equipment

  • Positively represents GSSC to customers with consistent professionalism

  • Leading of projects by self or with a team

  • Installation and maintenance of Fire system installations

  • Completing the Record or Completion (ROC) for completed systems

  • Completing inspection reports for municipality required inspection schedules

  • Filing ROC and Inspection reports within the ERP system and required compliance website locations

  • Printing required documents for site storage after an ROC or Inspection

  • Follow up Inspection visits for repairs on failed points

  • Completing separate repairs as per required to pass an inspection



Fire & Security Service Technician Minimum Qualifications:


  • Hold a valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Associate degree required or 2+ years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read Blueprints and Diagrams

  • Ability to be on the On-Call rotation throughout the year including a minimum of one holiday per year, one week at a time (number of weeks within a year are dependent on the number of individuals in the rotation) You will receive extra pay for weeks you are on call.



Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:


  • Employee is required to stand, walk, climb, sit and use hands and fingers.

  • Ability to complete ladder work, operate scissor and boom lifts, move boxes, and lift, up to 50lbs.

  • Reaching, grasping and carrying activities also required.

  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.

  • Although most work is performed inside, occasional outside activities are subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
