The T55 Growth Project Engineering team has an immediate opening for a Principal Project Engineer as systems engineering lead for the T55 Growth engine development program. To meet the needs of the marketplace in the face of stiff competition, the team must rapidly develop the new engine to be the best in the marketplace through the execution of world-class project management.


The Principal Project Engineer will lead the cross-functional engineering team to develop major systems to be best-in-market under strict schedule constraints. The selected individual will provide leadership for all IPDS functions related to the specific systems assigned, including schedule, budget, fabrication cost, technical attributes, requirements validation and verification, direct maintenance cost, and qualification. The individual will serve as a mentor and technical leader for the organization.




The successful candidate (you) will




KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Lead design and development activity of the engine systems through all aspects of the IPDS process on schedule, on budget, and in compliance with all technical requirements. Key aspects include requirements validation and verification, resolution of key technical challenges, acquisition of development hardware, management of fabrication cost and execution of qualification tasks.



  • Manage and define the overall engine system architecture, configuration, dynamics, loads, thermals, and structural life to ensure all requirements are achieved.



  • Act as a mentor and technical leader for the organization, including supplemental support of the chief engineer in reviewing designs and analyses.



  • Represent Honeywell in the industry or across Honeywell as an expert in the field of gas turbine module or system development and project management.



  • Broad indirect span of control of approximately 15 full-time equivalent engineers.



  • Cost account manager for assigned scope, including Earned Value Management System reporting. Annual budgetary responsibility is approximately $3.0M.



  • Investigate broad, complex, and ambiguously defined challenges, rally team consensus around the scope and approach to resolution and lead the team to resolution.



  • Expected to serve as the single-point leader for the project team
    • Single point of contact to the program for the assigned module or system

    • Leadership capability with diverse, cross-functional team

    • Escalate effectively with leadership and cross-functionally across the organization

    • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction

    • Bias toward creative thinking and innovation in product design and approach to everyday work

    • Solid working knowledge of and commitment to IPDS processes

    • Implement design-to-cost and variation-reduction strategies

    • Promote and build strong team working relationships

    • Manage within very difficult resource constraints, including all areas for which the team is responsible but for which the individual may not be an expert

    • Identify gaps and risks on behalf of the team

    • Balances workload of the team members

    • Close enough to work of team members to recognize when they are “stuck” or “off track”

    • Approves schedules and budgeted time for the tasks of the team members

  • Reviews the technical work of others, including
    • ERS sign-off

    • Design reviews

    • Trade Studies

    • Accuracy of analytical results

    • Down-select solution path amongst many diverse options

    • Demonstrated history of appreciating the “broader view”


  • Leads trade studies and RCCA activities


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS


  • Due to US export control laws, must be a US Citizen



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (aerospace/mechanical/systems)



  • Minimum 10 years of directly related engineering experience in the design, development, manufacture, and/or test of gas turbine engines



PREFERRED


  • Demonstrated mentor and technical leader of the organization, including supplemental support of the chief engineer in reviewing designs and analyses.



  • Recognized in the industry or across Honeywell as an expert in the field of gas turbine engine module or system development and project management.



  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrix organization to accomplish technical objectives under strict schedule constraints, including risk assessment, problem-solving, decision making, motivation



  • Ability to investigate broad, complex, and ambiguously defined challenges, rally team consensus around the scope and approach to resolution, and lead the team to resolution.



  • Capability to facilitate interpersonal relationships and resolve conflicts tactfully and effectively within Honeywell and externally with suppliers and customers.



  • Ability to promote customer satisfaction with the capability to establish strong business and personal relationships with customers and suppliers (internal and external)



  • Ability to escalate effectively with leadership and cross-functionally across the organization



  • Must be results-oriented



  • Demonstrated budget and schedule management skills in today’s EVMS environment. Direct project management training, such as PE academy, PMP certification, or other project management courses a plus.



  • Demonstrated knowledge of IPDS processes and tools



  • Direct experience in military qualification with a US Army customer



  • Excellent oral and written communication.
