TITLE: Director of Information Technology

LOCATION: Bronx and Harlem, NY

START DATE: October 2022

Our mission is to provide the children of Harlem and the Bronx with educational opportunities through a rigorous, comprehensive K-8 program that cultivates the intellectual, social and emotional development of each child. Our students, who include high functioning children with autism spectrum disorders, will become independent learners and critical thinkers, will acquire the academic skills that they need to succeed in college preparatory high schools, and will exhibit the social and emotional skills that will allow them to reach their full potential. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

We are looking for a professional with prior experience in the field of technology. The Director of Technology will supervise the Tech Associate and work closely with the Director of Operations at each campus to design, project plan and direct the overall technology ecosystem for our network. The Director of IT is also responsible for the professional development of our staff on our technologies and how to ensure a safe cyber world for NCS. This role will report to the Managing Director of Operations.

 

The core responsibilities of the Director of Technology role at Neighborhood Charter Schools include:

Budget Management

  • Help to shape and monitor the budget and report on expenditure
  • Support the finance department in compiling information for audits

Hardware Support & Management

  • Manage Lenovo, Apple and Chrome OS device support, including but not limited to Thinkpad, iPad and Chromebooks
  • Oversee all technology operations (e.g. network security) and evaluate them on a regular basis
  • Identify the needs for upgrades, configurations or new systems and communicate them with the managing director of operations
  • Design and implement short and long term strategic plans to ensure network capacity meets existing and future requirements
  • Support the instructional team in the implementation and execution of student facing systems including Clever, iReady and GoGuardian, etc.

Operational Management

  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with NCS operations, finance, network, instructional and other critical teams within the organization
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent network activities

Professional Development 

  • Provide technology support and training to staff members throughout the organization
  • Prepare and conduct professional development for the tech associate
  • Support the operations team with best practices on troubleshooting devices and escalation processes

Research & Development

  • Conduct research and make recommendations on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts
  • Research new hardware and software technologies, analyze business and market trends, and apply best practices and standards to procedures
  • Analyze the requirements of all departments to determine their technology needs
  • Inspect the use of technological equipment and software to ensure functionality and efficiency 

Security & Compliance

  • Create and manage the hardware framework for security policies
  • Oversee compliance within the technology department including erate, e-waste and State funding submissions 
  • Responsible for assessing technology on a regular basis and maintaining accurate inventory

Strategy & Planning

  • Create clear systems and procedures network wide and clearly communicating them with the director of operations at each campus
  • Devise and implement IT policies and systems network wide
  • Forward plan large projects from beginning to end and communicating to stakeholders in a concise and timely manner
  • Compose and communicate scholar and staff device collection and distribution process

Associate Vendor Management

  • Supervise and coach the IT Associate
  • Supervise technicians and other professionals to provide guidance
  • Assist in building relationships with vendors and creating cost-efficient contracts
  • Manage large projects and troubleshoot with our CTS vendor

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in the information technology field (or similar)
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in IT, database architecture, SIS management, or other related fields
  • Impeccable project management skills
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and forward plan
  • Outstanding communication abilities
  • Deadline and detail-oriented
  • Has an understanding of Lenovo Software, Hardware, and Operating Systems, Chromebooks and Chrome OS, G Suite and Promethean panels
  • Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Experience working in a school setting preferred
