We are looking for a Platform Support Engineer to join our software product development team. The individual will be working in a small team dedicated to maintenance and enhancement of the newly launched ORBCOMM Platform and work closely with development and QA (Quality Assurance) teams across the organization.

 



Roles & Responsibilities:



Responsible for driving the charter and mission for reliability engineering. Help develop processes and tools that ensure the reliability, resiliency, and performance of the entire platform stack processing tens of millions of events. Leading technical tasks for reliability, performance tests, and triage. Coordinate with engineers, and other engineering leaders to continuously measure and improve the quality and reliability of SaaS services and products.




  • Maintain and improve The ORBCOMM Platform, a microservices based modular Asset and Fleet Management application that has been launched in 2020.

  • Perform hands-on fixes including development of code changes and configuring systems and applications.

  • Prioritize, schedule, and administer all instances where enhancements and defect resolution are required.

    • Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent future problem recurrence.

    • Deployment & Support Conduct research into and develop effective solutions for software application problems, incidents, or events with the goal of rapid and right first-time remediation efforts.

    • Develop, implement, and provide proactive discovery activities so that user impacting events are limited, new application deployments are successful, and code enhancements are executed with a high degree of success.



  • Communicate application problems and issues to key stakeholders, including management, development teams, end users, and unit leaders.

  • Test fixes and perform post-resolution follow-ups to ensure problems have been resolved.

  • Proactively look for opportunities to improve both production and development code (working with developers) by using code reviews and sharing problematic functionality.

  • Apply diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting.

  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.

  • Work closely with developers, QA team, customer support and product management on delivering and supporting our service.



What we need:




  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science, information systems

  • 10 years equivalent work experience in development and maintenance of software applications

  • Experience with building and maintaining databases for queries and problem tracking.

  • Proven experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue resolution techniques.

  • Broad knowledge of programming languages and Web Application technologies

    •  HTML, CSS, Java, frameworks such as Spring and Angular JS, ReactJS and others.



  • Able to develop and interpret technical documentation for training and end user procedures.

  • The ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly. Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • The ability to conduct research into software development and delivery concepts, as well as technical application issues.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentational skills.

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
