METTLER TOLEDO Thornton is the leading global innovator in pure and ultrapure water measurement. Our customers integrate and manage pure and ultrapure water systems in demanding pharmaceutical/biotech, power generation and microelectronics industries, involving a broad spectrum of precise analytical technologies. We are part of Mettler-Toledo, a global manufacturer of precision instrumentation.

As part of the Thornton R&D team, you will focus on developing industry leading measurement instrumentation, and delivering robust, online, real-time, and continuous performance for process control of pure and ultrapure water applications.

We are searching the US for the right candidate to work effectively remotely, with regular visits to the MA or AZ offices. US residency and work authorization is required.

In this function, you will develop new analyzer/sensor technologies and architectures for purified water analysis, develop, advance, and implement signal processing solutions, support the team in the selection of suitable software and hardware platforms for analyzer and sensor technologies, provide ongoing support for existing product portfolio, and participate in the successful transfer of new products to our Operations team.

A successful candidate for this role works well in a small group with a dynamic cross-functional team environment spanning electrical, microbiology, optical, software, mechanical, and chemical engineering backgrounds. The team is distributed across three sites (Billerica, MA; Tucson, AZ, Mumbai, India), with this position located on-site in Billerica. Occasional US travel (up to 15%) may be required. Key Responsibilities Include:

* Design, develop, debug, test, and maintain software for existing and new products, applications, and services.
* Conducts basic-to-advanced research related to new technologies, product applications, or new products.
* Work with Marketing to define the requirement specifications for new products
* Translate market requirements to technical software specifications for new products.
* Test/debug prototypes of new designs, verifying that technical specifications are met.
* Ensure that software is properly documented for maintenance and understanding by peers.
* Use standard software repositories for proper revision control of production and development code.
* Develop software to assist research and development efforts.
* Write SOPs, QC procedures, and Test procedures for existing and new designs.
* Manage bugs/new feature request repository for products in Analyzers portfolio
* Participate in Root Cause Investigations related to product/process issues and implement solutions.
* Interface with Manufacturing Engineering to provide easy-to-test products.
* Writes alpha/beta/gamma test plans and reports.
* Participates in intra-company teams such as Audit, Safety, Recreation, etc.

What You Need to Succeed
* BSEE/BSCS (or equivalent experience) with 7+ years of embedded systems development experience.
* Programming experience in Python, C/C++, C# and LabVIEW.
* Experience with Linux embedded systems, and embedded Windows a plus.
* Experience or training in technical project management, preferably in instrumentation development.
* Strong understanding of embedded hardware/software systems and debugging techniques. Experience using emulators, simulators, debuggers, EE tools, scopes, analyzers and reading schematics for real-time development and verification of embedded software.
* Experience with signal analysis and signal processing solutions.
* Knowledge of real-time control systems, embedded control systems, and data acquisition systems.
* Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with hardware engineers and project manager.
* Excellent documentation skills.
* Experience with HDL/FPGA is a plus
* Experience with analytical instrumentation development is a plus
