General Summary
The Finance organization at Unum Group is looking for an Anaplan Solution Architect to be a leader in Finance transformation and the growth of our connected planning experience. We are looking for an Anaplan subject matter expert who has a passion for the design and architecture of planning and analytics solutions and will ignite change in our Enterprise through the development and deployment of engaging and robust planning models and tools. They will leverage their considerable expertise to advise leadership on technical solutions and consult with teams on how to translate strategy into actionable implementation plans & technical roadmaps. They will work closely with implementation teams on large-scale projects and ensure they are delivered to satisfactory completion.

The ideal candidate for this role will :

  • Translate existing solutions, spreadsheets, and business problems into sophisticated Anaplan multi-dimensional models
  • Modify existing models as part of a connected solution, optimization, or to incorporate new functionality
  • Support the efficient and effective operation of existing models make recommendations for enhancements where possible
  • Serve as the architectural SME for large-scale connected planning solutions
  • Fully leverage modeling standards and best practices for Anaplan and champion their use across Unum’s user community
  • Develop model documentation
  • Participate in data integration and migration solutions
  • Participate and/or lead UAT testing and deployment

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deeply understand business needs and the voice of the user and translate this into technical analytics and planning solutions & architecture
  • Conduct highly complex data profiling and analysis and utilize such information to develop actionable insights for organizational strategic decisions
  • Identify and promote new ways to release value from data and technologies for the wider company, including advocating for Anaplan and building a robust user community
  • Partner with leadership in the creation and promotion of a strategic roadmap for the growth and use of Unum’s planning platform, Anaplan
  • Develops a deep sense for Unum’s data and application architecture and evaluates data sources to determine the best source for business information
  • Leads teams in acquiring, transforming and translating data into actionable models, dashboards, reports, algorithms or datasets
  • When necessary, assists in evaluating 3rd party and existing technology to recommend the best solution while maintaining architectural integrity
  • Develop and build upon existing expertise of the insurance industry, company, competitor landscape and overall emerging trends in the planning technology landscape
  • Works directly with internal customers to refine requirements and validate output to ensure solutions will meet expectations
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and developmental support to lower-level model builders

Job Specifications

  • Bachelors Degree preferred, and/or equivalent experience
  • Certified Anaplan Solution Architect or Master Anaplanner
  • 5+ years with hand on analytics and planning development & thought leadership experience
  • Mastery of analytics programming languages (SQL/R/Python)
  • Preferred experience with modern BI tools (Tableau, Alteryx, PowerBI, or equivalent)
  • In-depth understanding of data profiling, statistical analysis and data modeling concepts
  • Adept in extracting and leveraging data out of data warehouse, transactional databases, object stores & API based environments
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies and the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Financial Planning & Analysis experience is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into sound technical solutions
  • Ability to embrace change, adapt to the unexpected, and focus energies, people, and solutions on practical and positive results
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Strong communications skills with the ability to influence those in senior positions using data and logic
  • Excellent leadership abilities including the ability to lead, mentor, coach and develop others
  • Aptitude and drive to learn new technologies and analysis techniques
  • Has strong track record in taking ownership for the design & implementation of technical solutions
  • Strong team player; able to work effectively within a team and more broadly with people from a variety of backgrounds and areas across the organization.
