Position is for a large federal contract located in Aurora, CO. Must be local or willing to relocate to Aurora, CO


Position Summary :


The Senior Information Specialist is considered the Library Lead and will manage organization and business improvement services of the Information Center and Library.


This will include methodology development and evaluation, process re-engineering, best practices development, change management, organizational development, data modeling / data synthesis, and system integration and alignment.


The Senior Information Specialist will provide efficient, innovative, and technology focused methods to the agency for the effective dissemination of information and library resources.


The individual will also manage library processes to improve services to constituents in the field, students at the academy, and federal partners with the agency in the Washington, DC office.



  • The Senior Information Specialist will be responsible for maintaining subject matter expertise of the corrections field by monitoring corrections literature, public policy, court cases, and various other information outlets;

  • managing and integrating library and content management systems; manage the Information Center’s physical & virtual library collection, on-line resources, and bibliographies;

  • administer access to the library through a virtual checkout system for e-books, audiobooks, and material of interest to the corrections field;

  • managing and administering NIC blogs, forums, and social media; make presentations to classes and meetings about The Information Center, or about the relevant topic;

  • conduct compliance review and implement modifications to documents to meet standards of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973;

  • administer coding of MARC records for copy and original cataloging; collaborate with fellow librarians, information specialists, managers, and partners on initiatives;


conduct web content editing via HTML and Drupal; and providing staff training.


Required Qualifications :



  • Master’s degree in Library / Information Science (or similar) from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in progressively complex library technologies such as open-source integrated library systems, electronic library material administration, and virtual help desk systems.

  • Experience with analysis of data bases, datasets, and statistics

  • Skill in writing and editing documents at a professional level

  • Superior customer service skills and ability to professionally collaborate with peers and upper management.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.

  • Must be a US Citizen




  • Criminal justice or corrections background

  • Computer science and programming background


Physical Requirements



  • Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lift, push / pull, hold / carry of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasional up to (35) pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
