Job Overview - Technical Communication Specialist


HUB International is rapidly expanding our digital product offerings and technology solutions and is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, critical thinker and problem solver to support mission-critical, enterprise-changing programs and projects to support our strategic goals.


The Technical Communication Specialist will be responsible for documenting and publicizing the development of all integration, enterprise, and transformational projects and product solutions from conception to completion. The Technical Communication Specialist should have experience contributing to the development and delivery of technical and employee-facing documentation in support of training and communication strategies.


The Technical Communication Specialist should have experience documenting software products and working with engineering teams across multiple previous projects. This is a position for someone who has experience in writing API/SDK and OpenAPI documentation.


The Technical Communication Specialist will rely on their experience and judgment to manage and accomplish the technical and end-user communication goals of multiple, concurrent strategic and operational initiatives. They'll demonstrate a mindset of critical thinking, continuous improvement, and self-direction, and contribute to the development of HUB's operational effectiveness capabilities. A wide degree of creativity and latitude to achieve these goals is expected.

In This Role, You'll Get To


  • Support the delivery of strategic, highly visible, and complex programs to expand HUB's digital product offerings and technology solutions,
  • Write documentation for internal teams such as developers, programmers, marketing, and impacted business areas,
  • Create and refine technical information and other various materials for explaining products and services,
  • Write and update technical documentation for OpenAPI interfaces and SDK,
  • Collaborate with fellow technical communicators to develop new approaches for creating more precise and engaging knowledge base articles for the company,
  • Suggest best practices and optimizations throughout content generation projects. Implement comprehensive technical documentation, feedback, and changes whenever possible,
  • Analyze information required for the development or update of policy, procedure, and form documentation,
  • Manage complex information and multiple projects within content specifications and budget restrictions,
  • Disseminate technical information in easy-to-understand language for a non-technical audience,
  • Design and write operational and instructional manuals dedicated to the end-user experience,
  • Develop visual instructional materials dedicated to the end-user experience,
  • Transform verbal information into clearly written procedures and training guides,
  • Use company brand voice and messaging for written pieces to reinforce the company culture,
  • Create release notes to inform key stakeholders of new products and/or enhancements to current products,
  • Consult with program team members on the development and delivery of training and communication strategies.


We Want Someone Who Has


  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills,
  • Able to handle multiple complex projects and assignments,
  • Familiarity with MS Stream, or competitive platform(s),
  • Experience as a Communication Specialist and has demonstrated success communicating and producing content targeted at non-technical end-users,
  • Experience as a Technical Writer/Author, and has demonstrated success communicating and producing content targeted at developers,
  • Experience writing API/SDK documentation and integration guides,
  • A strong understanding of tech ecosystems (frameworks, programming languages, cloud services, DevOps),
  • Experience with developer-focused media and have published content targeted at developer communities,
  • An aptitude to quickly learn and understand technical concepts and ideas; can work independently as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative environment,
  • Familiarity with OpenAPI, REST APIs, JSON,
  • Passion for delivering value to business and technical partners and end-users, with a customer-centric mindset that anticipates needs and responds positively to feedback,
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, collaborate, and communicate proficiently (both verbally and in writing) with internal and external teams, across all layers of the organization, including virtual team members across multiple time zones. Ability to adjust the message to the audience, and explain complex analysis in easily understood ways,
  • Insurance background is a plus,
  • Desire to learn.


Education And Qualifications


  • Required Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Required Education: Bachelor's Degree (4-year degree) or equivalent work experience
  • Required Travel: Up to 10%
  • Due to the nature of this position, you may be required to work outside regular business hours
  • Full-Time

This position reports into Chicago and can be based anywhere in the U.S.or Canada (i.e., remote/virtual).
