General Summary: Transfer Admission Counselor, in context of the Transfer Admissions Team and full Undergraduate Admissions Team, is responsible for recruiting and enrolling new transfer student class for fall, winter, and spring quarters.



  • Cultivates and builds relationships with prospective students within assignment areas.

  • Travels to assigned areas visiting community colleges, church and para-church organizations, military and veteran organizations, college fairs, and individual students and families. Identifies groups of students who will best fit SPU's mission and admissions requirements. Assist in the University's commitment to enroll greater numbers of ethnically diverse students.

  • Aware of how students are moving through the admissions cycle from initial contact to enrollment. Works to improve efficiencies of this cycle and the experience of prospective students. Actively recruits students by phone, electronic communication, webinar, student appointment, and by advocacy throughout the admission and scholarship process to reach transfer enrollment goals each quarter.

  • Understands and is able to accurately and effectively communicate about university policy, all academic programs, co-curricular activities, athletics, fine and performing arts, and other aspects of university life to both transfer and freshmen students.

  • Reviews and makes recommendations on transfer applications on a rolling basis. Evaluation of the application and transcripts with special attention to types of classes taken, credits accomplished, major interest, and fit to the university. Can require communication with academic departments to assess fit for major.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with community college counselors, church and para-church leaders, military and veteran organization contacts, Phi Theta Kappa members, Raise Me students, alumni, and others who may assist in the recruiting of transfer students.

  • Ability to develop relationships with students and community leaders of ethnically diverse backgrounds through culturally responsive conversations and outreach events.

  • Collaborates with Student Academic Counselors for transcript evaluation and articulation.

  • Meets with and interviews prospective transfer and post-baccalaureate students on and off the SPU campus with the purpose of assessing their admissibility and fit for the university, as well as communicating our distinctive qualities.

  • Participates in the application review of prospective nursing students.

  • Participates in the planning and implementation of campus events as assigned by the Assistant Director of Visits and Events and Visit and Event team. These events include, but are not limited to Falcon Nights, Falcon Fridays, Summer Visit Days, Transfer events, and may require evening and weekend work. This includes events that are focused around recruitment of first year students, and not just transfer student-focused.


Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Marketing, Public Relations, Communication or other related field.

  • Recent experience with college-age students, experience or interest in marketing, computer application and system experience, or direct experience with SPU.

  • Direct work with college students, specifically transfer students, is preferred. Experience or knowledge of military or veteran backgrounds and benefits, a plus.

  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Project management skills, with a keen sense of attention to detail.

  • Presentation and public speaking experience.

  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and extend care to people when communicating with them.

  • Professional presence and appearance.

  • Understanding of, commitment to, and ability to articulate SPU's mission.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; ability to work with students in potentially volatile situations regarding their admission and financial aid issues.

  • Flexibility to respond to changing market environment by quickly developing new marketing strategies as needed.

  • Flexibility needed to adapt work hours to peaks and valleys of the admissions calendar (including evenings and weekends).

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.

  • Experience with Banner and CRM systems, a plus.

  • Valid driver's license.

Position will remain open until filled.


Salary: $52,752 annually


This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes contributions to an employee HSA account and to a retirement account after one year of eligibility in the plan.
