We are looking for Engineer Scientist to join our team in the Field Services Section of the Air Quality Bureau. The Engineer is responsible for unique analyses, calculations, and professional functions essential to the implementation of the air quality program in the state of Montana. Responsibilities include: Review to determine, prescribe, and assess the design and implementation of structures, devices, systems and processes to meet air pollution compliance regulations; Analysis to determine whether facilities, equipment and industrial processes are constructed and operated in compliance with air quality rules and permit requirements; Review and implementation of state and federal statutes, rules, and policies; and Acting as a liaison for the Department to the public and industry on air quality matters.

The Engineering Scientist position includes a career ladder for professional development and pay progression. This position may be eligible for occasional telework.


Minimum requirements include:




  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, particularly environmental engineering or a closely related field of engineering.




  • Two years of job-related experience in environmental engineering design and compliance, or in a related engineering profession.



  • Current valid Driver's License and clean driving record in accordance with State of Montana Vehicle Use Policy
