Job Description
Multimodal Dialog and Interactions Lab(MDI) in Intelligent Systems Research Division, Intel Labs focuses on inter-disciplinary research spanning Conversational AI and Cognitive Computing technologies to create Human/AI collaborative systems that can amplify human potential and create sustainable and transparent Multimodal AI solutions. We utilize multi-modal signals (e.g. vision, audio, speech, language) and human in the loop methods to create Human in the loop AI systems for situated understanding, multimodal dialog and interactions. We conduct fundamental and applied research in the context of vertical domains including manufacturing, education, enterprise, and assistive computing.

MDI is looking for an Intern with experience in deep learning for language and vision systems who can help with the research being conducted in one or more of MDI's projects.
The successful candidate will be working on the topic of continual learning systems in specific vertical domains like education and/or enterprise collaboration domain. In this position you will have the opportunity to conduct research on building tools and proof of concepts for continual learning systems. You will be running experiments utilizing representation learning, clustering, active learning and relevance feedback based learning methods. If needed, you will be researching fundamental concepts and methods for mixed-initiative interactive systems, building and evaluating systems and proofs-of-concept that will allow for the deployment of scalable approaches in real settings. This research will enable validation of the ideas and the publication of findings in both internal and external venues.

This is an internship position and compensation will be given accordingly.
Qualifications
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience would be obtained through a combination of prior education level classes, and current level school classes, projects, research, and relevant previous job and/or internship experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
The candidate must be pursuing a Master's degree or a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or any related field.
1+year experience in below areas:
- Deep Learning, i.e. Natural Language Processing, Dialog Systems, Natural Language Generation, Multimodal Representation Learning
- Working knowledge of widely utilized AI frameworks (e.g. Pytorch, TensorFlow, Keras, Caffe)
- Python and/or C++ languages, and Linux OS
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ year experience in building NLP systems
- Knowledge of novel paradigms beyond supervised learning, such as weakly supervised multimodal learning, continual learning approaches, and unsupervised methods
- Experience in Multimodal Representation Learning-based techniques at the intersection of Speech, Vision, and Dialog Systems
- Knowledge of NLP techniques such as natural language understanding, dialog management and natural language generation
- Knowledge of Signal Processing and Speech Understanding techniques such as Speaker Identification and Diarization
- 1+ year experience with Human-Computer Interaction methods and best practices
- Knowledge of Explainability and Interpretability methods and techniques for deep learning.
- Familiarity with Intel OpenVino and RealSense technologies

Working Model
This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
