JOB SUMMARY
OKI (Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky) Regional Council of Governments is a council of local governments, business organizations and community groups committed to developing collaborative strategies to improve the quality of life and the economic vitality of the region. They are currently seeking a creative, self-motivated Javascript Developer that completes highly technical GIS/mapping projects and generates data under minimal supervision. This individual will develop spatial databases and web-based applications for land use planning, transportation planning, economic development, and environmental and open space planning. This could become a Team Lead positiion where you can train and/or oversee the work of others.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Contributes strategic vision and integrates a broad range of ideas regarding software development and GIS applications. Undertakes the highly complex applications development projects involving GIS.
- Develops enterprise-level software solutions with full competency and aligning with established design and architectural guidelines.
- Develops, tests, debugs and maintains an array of custom web-based GIS applications, tools and supporting web services using standard software lifecycle processes.
- Leads design/coding sessions, develops solutions, and implements solutions.
- Assist in data integrity and quality assurance activities to ensure application stability.
- Provides advanced technical support to internal and external users, identifies problems and/or issues, and provides resolution in a timely manner.
- Creates and maintains geographic data sets that may either be mapping quality or survey quality that include entry, retrieval, and evaluation of data usability.
- Provides maps and associated information to OKI Staff, the public, and local, state, and federal agencies.
- Effectively presents, communicates, and articulates technical information to all levels of the organization and board.
- Automates repetitive GIS tasks utilizing Model Builder and Python.
- Mentors and fosters growth of peers and team members.
- Assists department manager with GIS related issues.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geography, GIS or closely related field.
- 4 – 5 years experience with developing large scale browser-based JavaScript applications with mapping functionality.
- Extensive GIS skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of general cartographic methodology, practices, and procedures.
- Proficient with JavaScript, HTML, SQL, Google Big Query, CSS, Dojo, Python, REST services, ArcGIS, Microsoft Access, Word and Excel.
- Experience in database management.
- Familiarity with grid systems and projections.
- Individual must be creative and self-motivated.
- Ability to manage priorities, take initiative and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
