Job Summary:


We are seeking a Business Development Manager for Markel Specialty's National Wholesale Business Development team. This highly visible position involves providing significant leadership and coordination with Markel's brokers, regions, and product line leadership. The best candidate for this role will have a good underwriting background and strong communication and relationship skills.


Job Components and Responsibilities:



  • Management of national relationships with several of Markel's Wholesale Strategic Partners

  • Significant engagement with the leadership of Markel largest Wholesalers

  • Establishing business development initiatives and goals, and working internally and externally to achieve those goals

  • Leveraging available broker portfolio data to uncover areas of opportunity, and establishing and executing on plans to capitalize on those opportunities

  • Negotiation and execution of national growth incentive strategies and plans

  • Significant collaboration with regional management and product line leadership to support their business goals

  • Development and execution of national marketing strategies

  • Building and sharing broker production reports to support business initiatives and to highlight trends within our regions and product lines


Qualifications:



  • 8-10 years of insurance experience

  • Relationship skills mandatory, relationship experience preferred. There is a high degree of engagement both internally and externally, so strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed

  • Existing wholesale relationships and knowledge preferred

  • Ability to travel 60-70% where appropriate

  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong organization and time management skills needed, along with the ability to multi-task and project manage

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data
