St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system’s second-largest hospital. 



Position Summary:



Reporting to the HHC President, Administration, the Director of Philanthropy is responsible for developing and executing the strategy for fundraising in collaboration with the President, Regional and Foundation boards, and other key system leadership, and ensures the successful implementation of philanthropy’s mission and goals, resulting in enhanced donor engagement and revenue growth.



This position also acts as chief development officer for the region and manages a portfolio of donors capable of making six and seven figure gifts. In addition, this position oversees the grant writing and grant management process for the Fairfield Region.



This position reports to the Fairfield Region President and participates in the President’s Cabinet.



Position Responsibilities:



Develop the strategic direction of the philanthropy plan including annual and capital fundraising programs.




  • Identify fundraising needs and philanthropic funding priorities for St. Vincent’s Medical Center and the Fairfield Region.

  • Devise appropriate annual goals, and manage activities to maximize staff performance in prospect identification, strategy development, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, physician partnerships and volunteer leader engagement.

  • Ensure that each area of responsibility is properly tracking and managing their department cost centers.



Identify and steward major donors and act as principle solicitor of major gifts and stewardship of high net worth donors and prospects.




  •  

  • Maintain a portfolio of capable prospective donors, including cultivating relationships with donors capable of 6- and 7-figure gifts.



Develop and manage plans and programs with staff, volunteers and the foundation board to maintain current base and attract new donors in the areas of annual campaign, events, major giving, planned giving and foundation support. Ensure stewardship in each area.




  • Work with staff to meet or exceed departmental goals and national best practices and benchmarks; to identify prospects with gift potential through patient acquisitions.

  • Ensure plans for goal setting, strategic planning, and timely stewardship and reporting.

  • Encourage a culture of philanthropy throughout the region, cultivating participation from clinical and system leadership in developing donor relations and fundraising campaigns.



Cultivate and manage the foundation board and all volunteer committees dedicated to fundraising.



Ensure timely, accurate and engaging communications for internal and external stakeholders.




  • Mange the annual publication production calendar for communications, which includes but is not limited to, newsletters, stewardship reports, internal communications and board communications.



Oversee the writing of all solicitation letters, acknowledgement letters and other collateral materials.



Oversees the grant writing and grant management process for the Fairfield Region.



Perform other related duties as required.


Qualifications

Education: 




  • Bachelor’s Degree is in a related field, such as Liberal Arts or Communications. Master’s Degree preferred.





Qualifications:




  • At least seven years in nonprofit fundraising leadership roles and experience raising capital and endowment funds.

  • Demonstrated success in securing major gifts.

  • Ability to plan, organize, develop and execute strategies.

  • Excellent knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising principles.

  • Experience in leading teams and programs with organization-wide impact.

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to conceptualize the big picture while managing the small details.

  • Ability to work with a diverse community of clinicians and understand the health care delivery system and health care terminology.

  • Passion for service excellence with all constituencies including immediate team members.
