Overview:
Selective Insurance Company of America is hiring a Safety Management Specialist Trainee in Utah for our Southwest Region. In this role you will learn to provide safety consulting, risk evaluation and improvement services to underwriting by the successful completion of our training (may include on-the-job, self-study, and classroom). You will acquire the skills and abilities necessary to identifying exposures with significant loss potential, investigation of cause/effect of major losses and hazards, and advise on ways to establish effective loss prevention and safety management programs. The right candidate for this Safety Management Trainee position will be hired now with the program beginning July 2023.

You will acquire the skills and abilities necessary to identifying exposures with significant loss potential, investigation of cause/effect of major losses and hazards, and advise on ways to establish effective loss prevention and safety management programs. The right candidate for this Safety Management Trainee position will be hired now with the program beginning July 2023.
Responsibilities:
- Attend training program and meet all requirements associated with completion of hosted coursework.
- Develop proficiency in insurance coverage and understanding of risk factors.
- Demonstrate aptitude in identifying and assessing risk factors for current and potential customers.
- Learn how to assess customer needs.
- Establish competency in building relationships with customers and agents.
- Gain competence in collaborating with other SMS, Underwriters, Claims and Agents.
- Develop skills necessary to prepares and present high quality oral and written loss prevention and safety management reports and plans, designed to reduce risks, to agents, insureds or internal staff.
- Develop the ability to maintain current knowledge on state of the art loss prevention and safety management techniques through self-education and training programs. This includes a strong knowledge of nationally recognized codes and standards as well as appropriate state regulations.
- Requires travel on a regular basis.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated self-starter.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers/peers.
- Must show sound, balanced and timely decision making skills.
- Following Education/Experience preferred:
- Proficient in most standard business software applications, particularly Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook), Internet and HRIS.
- College degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or Risk Management.
- Must have a valid driver's license in good standing and ability to travel.
