Hyde Park Schools seeks to hire a High School College Counselor to support students at our high school campus. The College Counselor will be responsible for all aspects involved to provide direct guidance and advising to students and families in all grade levels, especially for juniors and seniors.

Hyde Park Schools’ mission is to provide a Christ-centered foundation of Biblical truth integrated in strong college-preparatory academics and well-rounded extracurricular programs. All employees are expected to adhere to the School’s Philosophy, Purpose and Objectives, acknowledge acceptance of the Schools’ Statement of Faith, as well as provide an individual Christian testimony.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists students in meeting admissions, financial aid, and scholarship deadlines.
  • Coordinates evening informational meetings for parents and students, college visits, speaker events, and summer application workshops, and helps students identify summer enrichment programs.
  • Helps students in all aspects of the college admissions process including guiding students toward a career/major, advising students on proper course selection, encouraging extracurricular activity involvement, assisting with writing college essays and resumes, proofreading applications, submitting transcripts, and more.
  • Provides families with financial aid and scholarship assistance, nominates students for select scholarships, and maintains a list of scholarships earned by students.
  • Writes clear, personalized, and effective letters of recommendation.
  • Provides guidance to faculty in writing college letters of recommendation.
  • Represents the school at conferences and college visit programs, and hosts university representatives on campus.
  • Maintains awareness of issues and trends in college admissions, higher education, and testing, and maintains membership in professional organizations.
  • Oversees management of and provides parent and student training in the Scoir application.
  • Maintains and disseminates information about standardized tests and helps to administer PSAT, PreACT, ACT, and AP exams
  • Serves as the school’s point of contact and coordinator for any dual credit (college courses taken for both college and high school credit) programs in which the school chooses to participate.
  • Responsible for coordinating with the school’s administration in creating a course schedule for each academic year.
  • Coordinates the process through which students select their course preferences
  • Annually meets with and tracks each high school student's progress toward graduation
  • Ensure that each student is scheduled in courses that keep them on track to graduate within four academic years of entering high school
  • Notifies the administration of any students who are in danger of being unable to graduate due to a failure to meet Hyde Park High School’s graduation requirements
  • Advises students regarding their options for credit recovery
  • Works with other staff to maintain accurate records, including academic reports and transcripts, according to school policy
  • Participates in and presents at selected college admissions events throughout the school year.
  • Contribute to the Hyde Park Admissions process through student meetings, interviews, and document evaluation as well as serve on the review committee
  • Communicates effectively within the school community.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students, parents, and staff
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal

Qualifications and Qualities of the Position:

  • Bachelors & Masters Degrees from an accredited institution required
  • Texas School Counseling Certificate
  • Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures, including guidance and counseling
  • Knowledge of growth and developmental stages of youth, counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of diversity
  • Proficiency working in collaborative team-based environments

Pay: $64,500.00 - $78,900.00 per year
