Full-Time
Primarily responsible for Capital Improvement Projects related to drainage engineering and may assist with development review projects on an as needed basis.
  • Manages and designs projects in the capital improvement program from planning through construction phases
  • Represents the Capital Projects/Engineering Department in the City of Denton for the Development Review Process related to drainage on an as needed basis
  • Acts as liaison with other city departments involved in the review of development projects, implementation of codes, criteria’s, rules and regulations applicable to the development projects, and reviews plans, and specification related to drainage 
  • Acts in the capacity of Floodplain Administrator and provides information to and works directly with developers, engineers, contractors, the public along with outside agencies in relation to drainage issues
  • Prepares written reports and agenda items and makes presentations to community groups as well as the City Council, Boards, Commissions and Committees as needed.
  • Directs the efforts of and provides technical leadership to other engineers and technicians in the department in relation to drainage issues
  • Other assignments may include performing engineering calculations, selecting equipment components, preparing specification, plan review, project management of capital improvement projects, and report preparation related to water, wastewater, drainage, and transportation projects
  • Helps prepare annual Capital Improvement and Operational budgets for the Capital Projects/Engineering and Drainage Departments and pursues federal and state funding opportunities for drainage projects.
  • Assists with the evaluation and planning the City's drainage system.  Helps determine causes of drainage concerns and recommend solutions. 
  • Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
Additional Duties:
  • Attends public meetings outside of normal work hours as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
  • Minimum of ten (10) years directly related experience 
OR
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
 
Core Competencies:
  • Registration as a Certified Floodplain Manager or ability to achieve same within six (6) months after employment
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and customers
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of drainage engineering.
  • Knowledge of the terminology, methods, practices, and techniques used in drainage engineering.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and applicable software.           
  • Ability to apply principles and practices of drainage engineering in assigned projects.
  • Ability to develop, review and modify drainage engineering plans, designs, and specifications
  • Ability to operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing and spreadsheet applications.
 
Preferences:
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Experience with computers including the following types of software: Windows, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, cybernet, hydroworks, HEC-1, HEC-2, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS
 
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
  • Must be able to work outside of regular business hours as required
