Senior Application Engineer

Job Description Summary

The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for supporting the Engineering Electronics users. He / She will also be a core member of the team supporting all the Electronics applications and the IBM ELM (Engineering Lifecycle Management) suite of applications. He/she performs a variety of activities including software installations, problem diagnosis, and troubleshooting for commercial electronics and embedded application packages and documenting a knowledge base. The Engineer will work closely with the business to implement new tools and provide suggestions for business process improvements.

Job Description

  • Coordinate and work with the business leaders to provide solutions for the business on ELM.
  • Suggest improvements to enhance the performance of the ELM systems.
  • Handle change management and global configuration management.
  • Understand Cloud systems and help implementation of IBM tools on the Cloud.
  • Lead new software evaluations and/or upgrade the existing software in collaboration with Global teams
  • Participate in evaluations and installs of all commercial Electronics Control System packages – Ex MathWorks products, Vector CANtech products, Compilers, and other such applications.
  • Expert in Rational Team Concert (RTC), Rational Quality Manager (RQM), and adaptors
  • Expert in Rational Doors Next Generations (RDNG) and Classic DOORS and the latest versions of ELM
  • Lead/Manage/Participate in projects involving upgrade and deployment of the latest versions of ELM
  • Monitor the health of the servers related to IBM Suite /ELM.
  • Ability to configure and manage RTC Build Servers.
  • Customize IBM RTC, RQM, DNG and other suites of tools for productivity enhancements using Rest-APIs.
  • Identify productivity improvements in business processes and recommend ECS integration and productivity tools.
  • Evaluate the impact of new software team processes. Plan and coordinate new software evaluation projects. Document system designs and architectures.
  • Working and installing license managers on Linux or windows and maintaining applications running on Linux or windows
  • Support other ECS tools and compilers like Cosmic compilers, Python compilers etc.
  • Design License usage reporting for applications with new license managers and create automated license reports
  • Write and maintain scripts to monitor disc usage, license, and application usage on ECS applications.
  • Work with the Technical support team of ECS application suppliers and IBM to get issues resolved.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

  • Engineering Degree in Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Project Management experience preferred
  • 10+  years IBM Suite of tools with an emphasis on latest versions of ELM
  • 5+ years of supporting commonly used Electronics applications like Vector products, CANtech products
  • 2+ CLM/ELM Deployment and customization
  • Experience in Integrating tools like Matlab, VCast, Ansys Medini etc. with IBM Suite of tools.
  • Experience in supporting ECS Software Tools via install, upgrade, license management and reporting.
  • Support ECS hardware like products from NI, Lauterbach devices, vector devices like vn-1630, zap debuggers and CAN products.
  • Experience with configuration, installation, customization and support of Rational Team Concert (RTC), Rational Quality manager (RQM)
  • Experience with configuration, installation, customization and support of Rational Doors Next Generations (RDNG) and Classic DOORS and latest versions of ELM
  • Experience with configuring and management of Websphere, SQL Server and Oracle DB for ELM
  • Develop customizations for RTC, RQM, DNG, CLM etc. with Java Rest APIs
  • Experience with Global configuration and change management in ELM
  • Understand ASPICE standards and suggest the implementation of ASPICE on the IBM suite
  • Handle queries, issues and tickets from the Customer care center and satisfactorily resolve them within the pre-decided time frames based on ticket priority
  • General NT administration
  • MS-Office tools, working with excel formula, graphs, MS project etc.
