Brand Manager- Health and Wellness


Central Garden & Pet is making significant investments in our marketing team, fueling our aspiration behind consumer-driven growth through innovation, consumer insights-based content and strategic category leadership. Our Pet Segment is searching for a Brand Manager to lead a high-growth, startup brand within our "Health and Wellness" Business Unit. The brand and business are in their infancy as an ecommerce (online-only) brand which has a growth aspiration that extends across distribution channels and product / services categories. We believe the brand has great potential to build deep meaning and powerful connection with our consumer and the pets we serve, and we are investing in the future of this business. This position will be responsible for building strategies to win with consumers, customers and retailers, alike, based on solid insights, superior products, and total proposition design that delights. You will set the strategy for the cross-functional team, leading with a collaborative, inspiring vision and making data-based decisions along the journey. You will work within a cross-functional business unit (eg finance, sales, operations, etc) and leverage the marketing center of excellence for consumer insight and content development. The position reports to the Vice President of Marketing & General Manager for the "Health & Wellness" Business Unit.



CORE RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Develop and execute compelling consumer-driven brand plans that meet or exceed sales, gross margin and EBIT targets

  • Partner with the innovation team to identify new products and successfully lead projects through the stage gate process

  • Partner with finance and demand planning to rally resources behind key initiatives and innovation priorities

  • Work with sales to develop compelling customer programming, often participating in joint-business planning sessions

  • Serve as the voice of the brand with stakeholders and internal and external agency partners, motivating action and inspiring consumer-driven creative

  • Lead packaging artwork and printed materials projects, from brief to commercialization

  • Maintain marketing budget, maximizing working dollars and providing recommendations for ROI improvement

QUALIFICATIONS



  • College Degree (BA/BS) required; graduate degree (MBA) preferred

  • Minimum of 7 years brand marketing experience

  • Consumer Packaged Goods preferred, Pet industry a plus

  • Familiar with leading new product innovation initiatives (pipeline management, cross-functional collab)

  • Digital marketing experience a plus


Working Conditions



  • 25% Travel

  • Computer proficiency on all MS Office applications

  • A remote work location is supported for this position


The reporting manager for this role is based in Chicago, Illinois, and the Business Unit is formally located at our corporate office in Walnut Creek, California. Sales personnel are dispersed throughout the country. Manufacturing, purchasing, engineering and some R & D is in Dallas, Texas. It is expected that this position would develop a close and collaborative working relationship across the entire organization.
