Summary


The Systems Developer position assists with the development of software applications to integrate the University s administrative computing system with other University and third-party systems. The position reports to the Manager of Systems Development.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Develop front end website architecture
  • Design user interactions on web pages
  • Develop back end website applications
  • Create databases to support website applications
  • Ensure responsiveness of applications
  • See through a project from conception to finished product
  • Design, develop and work with APIs
  • Make modifications to existing backend applications and front end websites
  • Provide support and training to end users
  • Stay abreast of developments in web applications and programming languages

  • 3-5 years of strong software programming and database management skills
  • Strong organizational, project management and interpersonal skills
  • Solid understanding of the software development process, including requirement gathering, analysis/design, development tools/technologies, release/version control, contemporary testing methodologies
  • Ability to present and explain technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others and gains understanding
  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical users


Education And/or Experience


Bachelor s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering or a related information technology field from an accredited institution and 3-5 years of experience in a software programming environment required.


Computer Skills


  • Proficiency with fundamental front end languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Proficiency with Perl/CGI and Apache a plus
  • Familiarity with Linux based systems
  • Familiarity with database technology such as SQL, Informix or other RDMS
  • Experience with Java EE a plus
  • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks a plus

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to top management, and boards of directors

High skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.


Mathematical Ability


Intermediate skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions and proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
