As a Ground Software Engineer, you will work on all aspects of spacecraft operations and play a pivotal role in the success of Impulse’s missions. You will design the software systems and architect the ground station network that enable operators to carry out missions in the most reliable and efficient way possible, and that span a broad range from near-earth payload deliveries to Mars surface landers.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, integrate, test, and deliver large-scale ground software and mission control systems, including operator GUI’s and automation tools
- Develop and implement software tools for operational automation, to reduce day-to-day operator responsibilities
- Lead design and operation of the ground segment, including command and control, mission planning, mission data processing, and the associated infrastructure to support all activities. Conduct critical testing including radio-frequency compatibility, remote ground facility interface testing, and acceptance testing of critical ground stations/assets.
- Work closely with subsystem teams and external customers to continually improve software tools and data products
- Support testing at the component and spacecraft level as necessary to prepare Impulse hardware for flight
- Support creation and execution of spacecraft simulator tests to validate mission/fault/autonomy design
- Implement specific mission data processing applications into existing systems to support payloads and end data users
- Resolve technical issues with innovative and resourceful solutions
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science
- Demonstrated experience with command and telemetry systems
- Demonstrated experience with developing software applications in Python, C++ or similar
- Demonstrated ability of taking project ownership and working well in team settings
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Master’s degree in engineering or science
- Experience setting up ground segment networks
- Experience with writing operations documentation
Additional Requirements:
- Flexible schedule and willing to travel as needed, including support of ground station operations inside and outside of the continental U.S.
