Maxim Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Speech LanguagePathologist Assistant (SLPA). The SLPAassists the Speech Language Pathologist in providing speech and languageservices. The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant will have clinical,educational, documentation, and treatment related activities while workingwithin the scope of responsibilities/ plan of care assigned by the SpeechLanguage Pathologist and/or physician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides components of a speech and language program as specified inthe treatment plan developed by a supervising SLP in accordance with the physician’splan of care according to state regulations
  • Self-identifies as SLPA to families, students, patients, clients, staffand others
  • Assists the SLP with speech, language, and hearing screenings withoutclinical interpretation
  • Assists the SLP during assessment of students, clients, and patientsexclusive of administration and/or interpretation
  • Assists the SLP with bilingual translation during screening and assessmentactivities exclusive of interpretation
  • Provides timely and accurate documentation of student, client andpatient performance and reports this information to the supervising SLP
  • Programs and provides instruction in the use of augmentative andalternative communication devices
  • Demonstrates or shares information with patients, families, caregivers,and staff regarding feeding strategies developed and directed by the SLP asState Practice Acts permit
  • May adapt educational materials and equipment for the purpose ofproviding intervention and/or meeting the individual patient, client, studentneeds
  • May serve as an interpreter for patients, clients, students, andfamilies who do not speak English
  • Provides services under the supervision of the SLP in another languagefor individuals who do not speak English and English-language learners
  • May assist with clerical duties, such as preparing materials and schedulingactivities, as directed by the SLP
  • Cleans and maintains equipment used in the field in accordance withmanufactures guidelines
  • Reports reaction(s) to treatment or change(s) in condition of thepatient, client, and student to the supervising SLP and alternate clinicaldesignee as indicated
  • Maintains communication with the company and other personnel caring forthe client, patient, student to assure that their efforts effectivelycomplement each other and support the objectives outlined in the plan of carewithin the scope of practice
  • May participate in formal care conferences, parent conferences, andintra-disciplinary team meetings only with the presence of the supervising SLP
  • Supports the supervising SLP in research projects, in-service training,public relations programs and marketing programs
  • Provides information to emergency response agencies for individuals whohave communication and/or swallowing disorders
  • Promotes early identification and early intervention activities
  • May present primary prevention information to individuals or groupsknown to be at risk for communication disorders
  • Exhibits compliance with The Health Insurance Portability andAccountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Actregulations
  • Actively participates in the required supervision by a SLP to ensurequality of care to all persons served
  • Adheres to company policies and procedures
  • Consistently models company’s philosophy of customer service andcompliance
  • Complies with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulationsregarding professional standards and practice standards
  • Shall achieve and maintain professional competence
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of a SLPA program with an associate’s degree, orhave a bachelor’s degree in a speech-language pathology or communicationdisorders program
  • Successful completion of a minimum of 100 hours of supervised fieldwork experience or its clinical experience equivalent
  • Current certification or licensure as a Speech-Language PathologyAssistant in the State of Practice
  • Must comply with accepted professional standards and practice
  • One (1) year of prior professional Speech-Language Pathology Assistantexperience preferred; home care experience preferred
  • Must possess and maintain current CPR certification in accordance withState regulation(s)
  • Current record of PPD or chest X-ray results, if applicable
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and fromappropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, coworkers,clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English languagemay be required
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
