Principal Process Engineer

Primary Duties

The Principal Process Engineer reports to the Vice President, Operations, and is a recognized process engineering expert in the adhesives industry. This role will provide leadership in process and project engineering and consult with global operations and R&D functions in new process development and addressing process engineering issues and improvement opportunities related to safety, quality, productivity, and cost efficiency.  The scope of this position is global and will be required to develop strong working relationships with the regional Operations and R&D teams.   

The Principal Process Engineer will perform complete process design.  They must be thoroughly familiar with adhesives process technologies and have expert knowledge of process equipment, materials of construction and unit operations. The initial emphasis for this role will be on Reactive Hot Melt (RHM) technologies and knowledge of and familiarity with these technologies is preferred.

This role will also serve as the Project Engineer or Project Manager on projects, proposals, or studies, and on the scale up of new processes or products.  When functioning as the Project Engineer on a project, the Principle Process Engineer will work closely with the Project Manager to perform discipline engineering and design work on schedule and in compliance with contractual obligations, developing when necessary, change notices to cover variations to the original work scope.  The position will assist in the technical development and serve as a technical resource for other engineers and R&D scientists.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering

  • 5+ years of of practical process engineering and R&D

  • 2+ years of team lead, supervisory, and stakeholder relationship management

  • 5+ years in batch chemical processing in adhesives, coatings, polymers, or resins (PSM site experience or hot melt polyurethane technology and extrusion preferred)

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt

  • Ability to influence key stakeholders and work effectively across cultures in a matrixed organization

  • Broad appreciation and understanding of Chemical Unit Operations, RAGAGEP (recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices), OSHA PSM, Lean, Six Sigma, quality management, project management, and change management

  • Broad appreciation and understanding of Lean Six Sigma, 8D Problem Solving, quality management, ISO 9001, and project management

  • Strategic thinking and a visionary acumen for developing and leading the transformation plan in continuous process improvement

  • Experience in large capital projects (i.e. $1MM-30MM)

  • Experience utilizing statistical methods and application software to solve process problems

  • Experience with New Process Development, Introduction and Scale-up/Technology Transfer

  • Experience executing PHAs, JHAs and FMEAs

  • Experience serving multiple sites within a region or globally

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (China, Europe and North America) up to 50% of the time which could include extended stay
