Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
This is a multi-level posting. This position provides highly technical engineering services and directs the work of others for the planning, design and construction of project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system. Responsibilities include project management for all phases of project additions; overseeing and guiding engineering staff in project management and design and problem resolution of complex engineering problems.
Typical Duties
Provide advanced engineering services for the planning, design and construction of project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's natural gas transmission pipelines and stations; focus would include planning and budgeting gas transmission systems, conducting system expansion studies and economic evaluation studies, separately and in conjunction with natural gas suppliers, designing new facilities, preparing specifications, drawings, contracts and construction of natural gas facilities and transmission pipelines. (40%)
Provide technical project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. (25%)
Conduct advanced engineering studies and complex investigations; prepare oral and written reports of results and recommendations. (15%)
Provide advanced engineering assistance to other departments; facilitate internal training classes for engineers and technicians; responsibilities may include developing presentations for senior management and professional/industry groups, authoring technical papers for publication by professional/industry organizations, chairing company committees/task groups and participating in industry standards committees and perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (15%)
Keep informed of industry issues/technical trends and recommend and implement changes to benefit MidAmerican Energy Company's business. (5%)
Provide technical leadership to staff.
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
The Engineer II position requires one to three years experience.
The Senior Engineer position requires five years industry experience. PE license is preferred.
The Senior Engineer II position requires eight years industry experience and a PE license. If no PE license, must have 10 years as a practicing engineer.
The Principal Engineer requires 12 years industry experience as a practicing engineer including experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature. This position requires a PE license. If not PE license, must have 15 years as a practicing engineer.
