Indirect Tax Manager

About the role
Zillow is looking for an Indirect Tax Manager who is driven to succeed with a proven ability to manage large workloads, prioritize effectively, communicate clearly and proactively deliver outstanding results in a fast-paced, growing company. This individual should be able to learn complex processes quickly and take on new tasks while also handling recurring functions. In this role, you will be responsible for managing indirect tax audits, mitigating indirect tax exposure, providing tax support for business initiatives and researching technical tax topics. This position reports to the Senior Indirect Tax Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage indirect tax audits and audit defense
Perform reverse indirect tax audits
Resolve indirect tax notices/issues
Pursue opportunities to mitigate tax exposure/optimize tax savings
Ensure alignment of business activities and indirect tax compliance
Document tax requirements of business initiatives
Document tax positions, internal tax policies and procedures
Manage Voluntary Disclosure Agreements
Perform in-depth research and analysis of technical tax matters
This role has been categorized as a Remote position. Remote employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.
In Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City the standard base pay range for this role is $97,000.00 - $155,000.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City and may not be applicable to other locations.
In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.
Who you are
8+ years sales tax, property tax, or gross receipts tax work experience
Public accounting firm experience with a Big 4 or large accounting firm
Bachelor's degree in accounting required, Masters in Tax preferred
CPA or LLM, required
Audit or audit defense experience, required
Indirect tax experience, required
State & local experience, required
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, required
Knowledge of IRS and GAAP regulations/requirements for publicly held companies
Experience with Avalara, a plus
Great problem solving and analytical skills to analyze information, draw conclusions, and develop actionable recommendations
Solid time-management skills to handle multiple deliverables simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-growth and rapidly changing environment
Ability to work independently, with general direction and guidance
RIA Checkpoint and BNA research platforms, a plus
Experience with Workday Financial and Zuora billing platform, a plus
