About the Team:
The Zillow Group Legal and Compliance Department is a dedicated team of skilled (and fun!) legal professionals who enjoy working in a collegial environment within an innovative, fast-paced tech and media company. This role is part of the Business Lines Legal Team, which provides the frontline support for Zillow's products and services.

About the role:
We are looking for an outstanding attorney to join our Industry Relations and Affiliate Programs legal team. This attorney will be responsible for supporting the Company's Industry Relations and Product teams, with a focus on MLS data compliance and public records requests. This attorney will be expected to learn and synthesize an array of Industry rules and regulations and data license agreements governing the Company's products and entities, with the objective of developing subject-matter expertise in this area. Success in this role requires effective communication and relationship-building with both clients and colleagues and a willingness to support the legal team on emerging issues and key initiatives as needed.

In this role, you will get to:
  • Oversee and handle all public records requests made by the Company to various state and county offices regarding, among other things, real property records; coordinate with Zillow litigation team and outside counsel as needed
  • Advise Industry and product teams (and product attorneys) on compliant storage, use, sharing, and display of MLS data, including:
  • Partner with property data/engineering teams to align legal guidance with technical capabilities
  • Engage regularly and proactively with product attorneys to identify potential MLS data compliance issues for key initiatives
  • Advise on MLS complaints & escalations related to ZG use and display of MLS data
  • Advise business and legal partners on strategies and requirements for new MLS data agreements as needed
  • Develop and maintain MLS data compliance resources & knowledgebase, including for ex.:
  • Matrix of current ZG MLS data sources (including contracting entity, data feed type, and current product/business line uses)
  • Legal guidelines/standards for MLS data usage/sharing (within ZG and externally)
  • Tracker for MLS data usage requests (and decisions) by ZG entity & product
  • Provide support to Senior Lead Counsel on escalated Industry matters and other ad hoc regulatory/litigation requests

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $120,900.00 - $193,100.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who You Are:
You are a highly responsive and trusted advisor that has:
  • 3-5+ years of experience as a corporate lawyer or in-house legal department, preferably at a real estate or tech company
  • JD with state bar admission, licensed in good standing, with a preference of admission in Washington, California or New York
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with ability to persuasively convey implications of legal issues and risk
  • Outstanding attention to detail, an upbeat work ethic, and excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Desire to take ownership of projects, issues and functions and quickly get things done
  • Excel at collaborating across departments and levels to develop consumer-centric, leading-edge solutions
