Duties and Responsibilities:

The Client Accounting Services (CAS) Controller & Special Projects Manager is responsible for managing the ongoing financial reporting operations of the firm on behalf of each Outsourced Accounting client. This position will focus on our Real Estate Vertical.  This includes the review of periodic financial reports prepared by the Accounting Manager, preparation of budget, KPI and other management reports, variance analysis, and comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the client's reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.  Internally for the CAS practice, they are responsible for the CAS client analysis management report.  The CAS Virtual Controller also serves as the primary liaison between the client and the client's tax preparer and other professional service providers.

  • Weekly client telephone meetings with clients relating to ongoing WIP, special projects, and open action items lists
  • Onboarding new clients including systems setup, project plans, deploying to CAS team
  • Internal Management Summary Report preparation
  • Internal Client Analysis Report preparation for the Virtual CFO
  • Preparation of complex client Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Critical Success Factors (CSFs), and other management reports
  • Budgeting and Forecasting project completion (in support of CFO) and completion of Management Report Package
  • Review of Management Reporting Packages prepared by Accounting Manager
  • Creation and ongoing monthly maintenance of client procedure manuals
  • Resource planning and management of accounting and technical resources
  • Various Balance Sheet and Bank reconciliations
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
  • Develop and monitor metrics and performance indicators through the creation and maintenance of dashboards that highlight trends and analyze causes of unexpected variances
  • Approval all monthly accounting workpapers
  • Oversight of real estate client books
  • Forecast, monitor and manage cash flow
  • Work with CFO on budget planning and financial strategizing as well as comparison activities, financial forecasting, and conduct other assessments to improve the financial performance of Real Estate. Construction, Restaurant/Franchisee clients.
  • Interpret sales, P&L and quality compliance data to develop recommended actions for improvements
  • Special projects on request
  • Contribute to the implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
  • Assist in the month, quarter, and year-end closing process

Required Skills, Competencies & Abilities:

  • 10+ years of work experience
  • Financial reporting tools (used in the real estate industry)
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online required (QuickBooks ProAdvisor a plus)
  • Experience with Sage Intacct a plus
  • Experience with Yardi and AppFolio is a plus
  • Prior business experience and ability to apply that experience to a wide range of client situations
  • Advanced skills in Real Estate industry (Property Accounting a plus)
  • Ability to motivate and manage remote staff
  • Highly analytical individual with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to meet objectives such as tight deadlines, special project timelines, budget, and outcomes
  • Ability to manage unexpected and sometimes urgent firm or client matters as they arise

Required Education And/or Experience:

  • Active CPA preferred
  • BS in Accounting, MBA preferred
  • 3-5years of experience in private/public accounting working with clients with $1 million to $50 million in annual revenue (Experience with clients with revenues over $50 million preferred)
