Quality Assurance Analyst

Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Analyst II will collaborate with Scrum/project teams in all Agile ceremonies to understand, test and support program applications, key business functionalities and complex technologies across the business unit.

This role will be responsible for supporting the testing efforts for the team including activities such as contributing to end-to-end testing strategies, helping to build maintain and execute regression and smoke tests to ensure that all quality objectives are met and functioning to expected requirements.

Collaboration will be encouraged with the business and technology teams to understand the overall business functionality and basic application architecture. Comprehensive testing of the business logic and functional areas of the application under test will be the primary focus for this role.

The Quality Assurance Analyst II will have an opportunity to learn and modernize the Clayton Technology QA practice, which may involve off-the-shelf applications, custom applications and/or enterprise-level integrations, and/or existing legacy applications.

About The Team

Our technology group is aligned to deliver and support all technology projects for the Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance Originations group, including customers applying for home loans and home office team members. Additionally, as the VMF company's business process relates to Retail Clayton business units and corporate shared technology teams, you will work alongside other quality assurance team members within VMF and in other areas of Clayton to assist in serving as a quality subject matter expert in all areas of quality and testing for our applications. You will lead by example and bring a strong desire to improve quality deliverables while supporting our project teams and business functions.

Primary Qualifications

  • A solid understanding of Quality Assurance best practices and standards.
  • Ability to speak at a high level on multiple testing types within the test pyramid (examples: UI, Service layer/integration, End to End, performance, load, functional, networking, security, UAT etc.)
  • Proven ability to work independently and write, maintain, and execute comprehensive test plans/strategies and test cases from a variety of requirement sources and documents.
  • Creation, maintenance and execution of manual/exploratory test cases and test data as well as the ability to identify and execute automation for common test scenarios.
  • Log and report all details of defects and issues found, reporting on steps to reproduce, configuration information and expected results vs outcome obtained, and work on helping to regress and test all fixed issues, and ensuring those issues have appropriate test coverage moving forward.
  • Understanding of test data required for execution of different test scenarios and testing types.
  • Lead the execution and reporting of detailed root cause analysis and issue triage to provide solution-based insight on areas of improved and deliverable quality.
  • Advocate for quality in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including customer issues and resolution SLAs, often providing recommended solutions and improvements to ongoing process and delivery.
  • Ability to provide value driven metrics and recommend specific measurable data that can be reported on to highlight areas of quality for continuous improvement and risk analysis.
  • Collaborate with direct team members as well as other team members and stakeholders across the enterprise and in the field to understand the key processes, technologies, business needs and requirements for supported business functions, and facilitate meetings.
  • Support other QA team members in mentoring and provide technical guidance to encourage ownership of goals, build morale, increase skills of others, and set a positive tone for the team.
  • Assist team in removing daily roadblocks to help provide a smooth high quality, and on time product delivery to the end user.
Desired Skills
  • Experience testing and working with complex application architectures (Microservices) with many dependencies, testing beyond the UI layer of the application
  • Experience testing Mortgage and Finance applications is preferred.
  • Experience working with cross team testing efforts and supporting/managing end to end testing across teams and different applications
  • Experience working with a test management tool such as Tricentis qTest, HPQC, Azure/AWS DevOps etc. (qTest preferred)
  • Experience with Web-Services and API testing
  • Strong SQL query skills
  • Experience creating and utilizing various types of testing data for manual and automation testing efforts
  • Comprehensive understanding of release management and CI/CD tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, Octopus, or similar tools
  • Familiarity with domain-driven design, event driven architectures and microservices.
  • Experience testing and working with IBM applications (iSeries AS400) is a plus
  • Knowledge of work tracking systems like Jira, TFS, Azure or a similar tool (Jira preferred)
  • History and experience pairing with developers and engineers to do root cause analysis and evaluation of test coverage based on requirements
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills
  • Self-starter who can work effectively and independently within time constraints, and a fast-paced environment with regular changing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse group of team members.
