Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS) is seeking motivated and talented Senior (Level 4), Senior Lead (Level 5) or Principal (Level 6) Systems Engineers to join the MWS Systems Engineering Team in Huntsville, Alabama.  We are seeking engineers that are motivated by being part of a mission critical program, instilling engineering discipline and rigor, and participating in the digital engineering transformation.  There are multiple positions for a wide range of systems engineering roles available.

The Missiles and Weapons Systems (MWS) organization is dynamic and growing engineering team focused on attracting and developing top talent in support of critical missions for National Defense and Strategic Deterrence.  Connected to our customers' missions, we deliver unique capability through our exceptional talent.  The programs that we support in Huntsville, Alabama include Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) , Precision-guided Munitions, and Integrated Air & Missile Defense products (PAC-3, Avenger, ABMD); Missile Defense Agency National Team (Systems Engineering, C2BMC), and Strategic Deterrence Systems (which includes Minuteman ICBM support and guidance system repair).

We are currently actively seeking to hire Senior (Level 4), Senior Lead (Level 5) or Principal (Level 6) Systems Engineers for a variety of positions in support of the GMD Systems Engineering and Integration Support Services (SITR) program and the MDA National Team.

Systems Engineering/Digital Engineering Responsibilities May Include:

  • Development of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, processes and architectures

  • Configuration, data and work flow management of program specific MBSE tools and processes

  • Establishment of protocol / process for integration of engineering tools with MBSE

  • Establishment of tools, processes and data architectures for Digital Engineering.

Systems Engineering, System Integration, Design Integration Responsibilities May Include:

  • Perform analysis to optimize total system and/or system architecture to solve complex missile defense problems

  • Apply interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to plan, design, develop and verify system solutions

  • Define and coordinate system performance requirements and integrate technical parameters.

  • Define high level functional and performance requirements and verification methods, subsequent analysis, decomposition, and derivation of requirements, allocation of those lower-level requirements to physical and functional architectural elements, and tracking them through design, verification, integration, and operational validation

  • Develop verification and validation methods, processes, logic, and plans in support of program milestones

  • Analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications

  • Test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements

  • Perform analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, survivability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance, product security (cyber security) and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success

  • Develop and document electronic and electrical system requirements

  • Performs / leads circuit design (PWB layout, thermal analyses, power analyses, EMI analyses)

  • Performs / leads software development, software and test integration

Systems and Performance Analysis, Model & Sim, Algorithm Development Responsibilities May Include:

  • Evaluate systems under various scenarios and architectures to determine and/or optimize overall system mission performance in a framework giving insight into performance

  • Develop and maintain analysis tools of varied fidelity including modeling and simulation tools to predict performance against evolving threats of current and future missile defense systems

  • Perform systems analyses of the existing system architecture in conjunction with new technologies and concepts for improvements to be considered for future architectures

  • Develop, refine and document key algorithm capabilities to support various DoD customers

  • Conducts analysis of multiple targets discrimination for survivability, vulnerability, and susceptibility into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.

Examples of current open positions / statement of work:

Model Based Engineering:

  • Technical lead responsible for development of Model-Based Engineering / Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, processes and architectures for Missile and Weapons Systems (MWS) division and the SITR program. 

GMD/SITR:

  • Verification and validation of GMD products and solutions. GMD systems analysis tasks associated with system performance analysis in assessing the GMD design impacts to kinematic, defended area, and raid size performance. Tasking would include assessment and tracking of Technical Performance Measures (TPMs), execution and analysis of system level Models and Simulations.

This position is expected to be 70 - 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. (An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering

  • Experience working both independently and in team environments

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience applying and teaching systems engineering processes and principles

  • Experience/domain knowledge of system architecture, requirements, interface definition, verification, and validation

  • Experience with complex systems development and integration

  • Experience modeling or simulating complex systems

  • Experience with implementation and maintenance of systems engineering tools, schedules and metrics (i.e. Earned value management, DOORs, CAMEO)

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering

  • Understanding of statistical analysis, distributions, and sampling

  • Demonstrated use and knowledge of SysML

  • Understanding of DoDAF, UAF

Typical Education/Experience:

Senior (Level 4)

Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior Lead (Level 5)

Bachelor's degree typically 14 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 12 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Principal (Level 6)

Bachelor's degree and typically 20 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 18 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 15 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Summary pay range for Senior (Level 4): $119,850 – $162,150

Summary pay range Senior Lead (Level 5): $147,050 – $198,950

Summary pay range for Principal (Level 6): $174,250 – $235,750
