January 9, 2023
Tesla
Fremont, California
The Role Tesla is seeking a highly motivated engineer for a Virtual Commissioning Engineering position that focuses on creating 3D/2D simulations of the manufacturing processes and validating, debugging, and integrating controls system for the manufacturing processes.
This position concentrates specifically on Virtual Commissioning, Digital Twin integration, Industrial PC/PLC software simulation/emulation, code development and controls testing.
The digital equipment simulations include robotic cells, servo actuated mechatronic systems and high-volume automated process equipment.
This is an exciting opportunity to build a world class digital manufacturing facility for Tesla.
Virtual Commissioning Engineers work with cross-functional teams to design, validate, and final roll-out of controls code (PLC and Robotics) to achieve full production line simulation.
Candidate will be key in driving standardization across various manufacturing lines and processes at Tesla factories.
Candidate will work with external equipment integrators and vendors and internally with Mechanical engineers, Controls engineers, Robotics engineers and Maintenance to develop manufacturing process simulations.
You will be engaged in a digitalization journey that will result in optimized and efficient manufacturing process and on-site equipment commissioning.
You will collaborate with a wide network of colleagues to put virtual commissioning on the map.
Specific Responsibilities include:

Drive the development of automation process with focus on robotic and process simulations, device kinematics, and virtual automation by defining the simulation processes and workflow.
Drive the development of 2D simulations for devices using fluid mechanics.
Support the automation process to compile robot offline programs and debug when necessary.
Drive the changes in controls logic by means of virtual commissioning.
Develop Robot Simulation and Virtual commissioning standards.
Lead and assist the Manufacturing Engineering organization through commissioning activities from power-on through cycle time improvement, ensuring a smooth flow between the simulations and commissioning.
Work with suppliers to resolve and implement (ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant) robot tech packages, digital control reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment.
Support and assist Maintenance teams to troubleshoot breakdowns and failures of equipment after deployment into production and run root cause analysis.
Implement robot simulation on the shop floor and execute activities to enhance simulation accuracy and the extent to which simulation is applied.
Research innovative technologies to drive manufacturing towards digital transformation.
