Job Description

Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join our team as an Underwriting Analyst!

About the role

In this role, you will support the Underwriting Department by handling large claim data analysis. You will work independently on day-to-day activities involving underwriting analysis, reporting and various operational functions.

What you will do

  • Data Analysis - Use various underwriting tools, pivot tables to sort and manipulate large claim reports
  • Work closely with members of both the Underwriting and Sales support staff
  • Prepare Specific Experience Rating Worksheets in Symetra's quoting system with a high degree of accuracy
  • Sort large claim and monthly claim reports and categorize them into separate journal entries. Complete updates when new information is available
  • Place completed submission in the digital rack for the Underwriting team
  • Communicate with internal and external parties, like producers and TPAs
  • During non-peak times, participate in underwriting training focused on developing additional skills, including but not limited to assessing and pricing of specific risk, large claimant evaluation and completion of aggregate calculations
  • Job shadow with underwriters, HDA's and medical risk consultants
  • Assist with audits and completing other assigned projects
  • Maintain a high degree of initiative and knowledge of the Stop Loss underwriting process, operations, and the Symetra organization

Compensation

Hourly Range: $22.58 - $37.62plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Requirements

Your experience and skills

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required
  • 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Proficiency with the MS Office Suite with speed and accuracy in Excel
  • Comfortable learning and using multiple computer systems
  • Experience with the David Young quoting system a plus
  • Strong, analytical, data entry, data manipulation and reporting skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Good prioritization, organization, and time management skills
  • Goal-oriented
  • A continuous learner with a desire to grow
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Great communicator both verbally and written
  • Good at problem solving and decision making
