POSITION OVERVIEW:          



dormakaba is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to be a vital part of our business and future growth of the Product Design Team in Indianapolis, IN. This position will be responsible for supporting project design teams by performing and completing work engaged in research and development of mechanical and electro-mechanical commercial locksets and hardware.  You will participate with representatives from engineering, project management, manufacturing, quality, test, and marketing in project definition, justification, planning, and execution. 



 



PRIMARY DUTIES:




  • Supports project teams, with minimal guidance from Management, through all phases of New Product Development (Concept generation, Testing, Tooling, Validation, and Production)

  • Creates CAD models and Drawings associate to project efforts utilizing Creo and Windchill

  • Creates design documentation such as 2D stack-up analysis, DFMEA, Test Plans, and other related items as instructed by Sr. Engineering or Management

  • Leads all aspects of engineering design for projects/products through team collaboration, persuasion, or hands on task execution

  • Monitors and reports project status and develop contingency plans to assure that product development tasks are completed within time and budget constraints

  • Ensures all project and engineering documentation is properly recorded and archived using engineering due diligence and existing company policies and procedures

  • Creates and Analyzes design concepts and detailed designs to assure compliance with product requirements, design specifications and applicable standards

  • Creates and reviews test plans, test procedures, and test results to verify compliance with product requirements and quality standards

  • Assists the Project Manager and Product Manager in project justification, planning, and execution activities

  • Makes sound recommendations for material and design process for components that meet the business and product requirements

  • Leads and ensures proper execution on all engineering milestone and phase deliverables

  • Lends technical and analytical expertise to aid in the analysis and refinement of product design concepts



 



REQUIREMENTS:




  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology required

  • Minimum 5 years of experience designing mechanical components and mechanisms

  • High level proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, detailing & data management, Creo & Windchill preferred

  • Proficient with standard drawing tolerance and GD&T standard (ASME Y14.5M-2009)

  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience preferred

  • Understanding of DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM/DFA, and C&E analyses

  • Ability to perform tolerance stack-up analysis as required

  • Comprehension of kinematics, statics, dynamics, stress analysis, properties of materials, and mechanism design required.

  • Ability to solve complex Problems using proven engineering methods and logic

  • Time management and organization skills

  • Excellent skills with personal computer and general business software such as MS Office

  • Detail oriented

  • Excellent communication skills
