Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION / GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under supervision of the Engineering Manager and Director, monitors, operates, repairs and maintains all mechanical, vacuum, pneumatic and electrical physical plant equipment and electronic control systems.  Performs all duties within the specifications of the National Electrical Code, and applicable local codes and maintains proper documentation as prescribed by JCAHO. 

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

• Work requires a level of knowledge equivalent to that obtained by graduation from a specialized tradesman training/apprenticeship programs.     
• Work requires an advanced level of technical knowledge of the operation and maintenance of boilers, steam systems, pumps, condensers, chillers and air conditioning control systems or systems such as nurse call, building automation, fire alarm, or pneumatic tube stations which normally acquired through two years of progressive plant maintenance or technical field experience.  
• Must be able to read electrical and mechanical schematics and have basic PC skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

•  Monitors equipment and mechanical areas to detect malfunctions reports or repairs as needed.                            
• Maintains preventive maintenance schedules and daily equipment room rounds.      
• Maintains and conducts testing of diesel generators to provide emergency power.
• Works with contractors on scheduled maintenance of generators, fire alarm and sprinkler systems.     
• Maintains preventive maintenance schedules and daily equipment room rounds. Maintains clear and precise documentation of all testing results and log entries.
• Maintains medical gases throughout the Hospital.
• Maintains a thorough understanding of the facility's electrical distribution and HVAC Control systems.
• Must have the ability to work alone if needed and assume full building responsibilities with understanding of department “Call Tree” procedures.
• Responds to all hospital emergencies and alarms such as fire, med gasses, steam utility outages, inclement weather. Maintain effective training in all Emergency Preparedness as directed by hospital safety committees. Responds to temperature calls, and makes repairs or adjustments as necessary.
• Uses electrical and mechanical testing equipment to troubleshoot measure and calibrate electrical and mechanical devices.
