Essential Functions

  • Consults with hiring managers on open position specifications.
  • Creates and manages job postings (for all union, non-union, and student positions) on the company website and various media.
  • Develops and maintains multiple recruitment channels to ensure a stable pool of qualified candidates (e.g employee referrals, etc.) Attends internal and external job fairs.
  • Screens resumes, conducts phone and in-person interviews, administers tests for certain positions.
  • Generates candidate offer letters, and follows up on all new hire employees.
  • Generates bid awarded and bid rejected letters for union employees
  • Conducts reference checks and criminal background checks.
  • Ensures compliance with all legal aspects of recruiting.
  • Sense of urgency with reaction time to fill open positions.
  • Creativity in sourcing and hosting recruiting events.
  • Follows internal job posting process per union contract.
  • Utilizes Applicant Tracking System including applicant declines.
  • Executes and analyzes data of internal employee surveys, turnover report, and hiring report.
  • Assists with the new hire paperwork and orientation process.
  • Follows up with new hires to ensure smooth on-boarding experience.
  • Conducts exit interviews.
  • Processes term slips and any other applicable changes.
  • Provides clerical and special project support to the HR department.



Campus Dining and Shops at the University at Buffalo is looking for a Recruiter to join our Human Resource team in a fun and fast paced environment! We are looking for an experienced Recruiter to work with our team to drive change and help make a positive impact in our recruitment efforts.

The recruiter is responsible for souring efforts, screening resumes, conducting initial phone screens, scheduling of calls and interviews, using our recruiting software and HRIS system for applicant tracking, coordinating background checks and credentials, initiating and participating in recruiting events, coordinating with our marketing team to market our opportunities, and promoting a positive experience for candidates throughout the hiring process. The positions this role is focused on recruiting are our union hourly food service and retail and non-union positions as well as management and support staff roles.



Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time position with a minimum requirement of 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm with occasional evening and weekend work being required during peak periods and as job duties require. Additional hours are required during the August start up period and will include weekends and evening hours for approximately 2 weeks.

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years professional recruiter experience, including recruiting, reference checking, new hire paperwork and knowledge of HR legal issues.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Kronos HRIS familiarity is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with maintaining an Applicant Tracking System.
  • Familiar with food service industry or similar industry preferred.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopies, phones, filing cabinets, fax machines etc. The role also enters food service and retail locations and may be exposed to a kitchen environment when introducing candidates to the positions and job opportunities.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • The employee must be able to stand and walk for up to 4 hours.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
  • The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and or move up to 25 lbs.
