Job Description: Senior/Principal Engineer, Microfluidics - Xellar Biosystems
Xellar Biosystems (Xellarbio) is a fast-growing AI + Wetlab drug discovery company with huge market potential, currently located in Cambridge, MA. We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated Senior/Principal Engineer, Microfluidics, who will contribute significantly to the development of our microfluidic platform for cell culturing. The primary focus of this position is on leading the design, prototyping, production, and verification of the microfluidic devices. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including scientists, engineers, data scientists, and commercial and business development representatives to develop our disruptive technology for drug discovery and development. As an Xellarer, you participate in a fast-growing dynamic team at the cutting-edge of translating novel biotechnologies into medicine. It's time to ignite a new era in improving human healthcare.
The successful candidate will have experience designing and developing microfluidics devices and is knowledgeable about fluidic flow dynamics and flow simulation in microfluidic channels. Experience with fluid control systems is a plus.
Key Tasks:
- Responsible for the design and development of the microfluidic devices-based consumable for cell culturing
- Identify & interface with external partners to accelerate the design and development of the devices through prototyping to mass production
- Interface with internal R&D and product teams to negotiate designs that meet product requirements & are feasible to manufacture economically
- Design and execute study plans to evaluate design and document results properly
- Conduct design reviews and present fresh ideas, new technologies, and creative solutions to design problems
- Show proof of concept through rapid prototyping
- Work closely with the scientific team through the creation of verification/validation protocols as well as successful execution, data generation, reporting, and documentation
Qualifications:
- 0-5+ years of hands-on experience with the design and development of microfluidic devices
- Hands-on experience with flow simulation software such as CFD, COMSOL
- Experience with drafting engineering drawings, BOMs, and product specifications is a plus
- Experience with thermoplastic-based microfluidic devices is a plus
- Knowledge about pumps, connectors, etc. that drive fluidic flow through microfluidic devices is highly desirable
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, including machining, injection molding, and bonding of consumables (ultrasonic welding, laser welding) for biotech components
- Desire to be part of a rapidly evolving organization with compelling technology, and ready to take products and processes to the next level
- Self-awareness, integrity, authenticity, good time management, record-keeping and task-prioritization skills
