Community School Director
Annual Salary $50,000-55,000
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the overall implementation of Village/ Harford Public Schools Community School model including Family Resource Centers (FRC), Teen Outreach Program (TOP) and after school programming. Work as a supportive partner to Principals. Oversees any and all activities, programs and services in the assigned schools. Responsible for staff hiring; coordinates staff training; supervises, supports and evaluates staff performance; manages collaboration of participating agencies and community providers; monitors programmatic and financial activity of all service providers including subcontractors; oversees programmatic and statistical reports and evaluation related activities as required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assure the functioning of all programs (health, dental, mental health, extended day, parent involvement, specialty services and special projects) within the context of partnership and collaboration with the community and the school.
Develop, maintain, and nurture relationships with school and community leadership.
Coordinate programming by community partners – monitor quality of programs and measure impact on participants. Hold providers accountable for quality.
Recruit, hire, and train culturally competent staff.
Implement programs that aim to develop students academically, socially, mentally, and emotionally – ensure that programming is culturally and developmentally appropriate for the target group.
Assure that hours of operation and supervision in the school fulfill the basic principles of community school environment: extended school day, school year and summer programming for children, their families, and the community at large.
Support parental involvement in schools with dedicated activities.
Ensure grant deliverables are met for each service set in assigned schools.
Represent schools/agency at community meetings and events.
Monitor program expenditures, sub-contractual program expenditures; liaisons with Village accounting staff and local Board of Education financial staff regarding budget monitoring and reports; submits requests for budget revisions as needed.
Assist with or completes funding applications for project funds/supplemental funds and project renewals.
Participates in agency-sponsored seminars and conferences to increase professional knowledge and skills.
Required Experience:
EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS
Associate’s degree or 5 years of direct management experience in a school/community based setting.
Connecticut State Driver’s license
EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of the Hartford community and early childhood and family support providers
Familiarity with After School enrichment programming
Cultural competency in working with Latino and African-American populations
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Understanding of and sensitivity to variant family values
Ability to lead a service collaboration team
Ability to be a “self-starter” and work with minimal supervision required
Strong organizational skills required
Bilingual/bicultural abilities (English/Spanish) desired
Physically able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations
