Hyliion is looking for an Senior Engineer - Applications to join our engineering team in Austin. This full-time position offers the opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing company that is revolutionizing the trucking industry. We are seeking exceptionally talented individuals that are highly motivated to revolutionize an industry, reduce the use of fuel and have some fun. You will be joining an experienced engineering team in the design, simulation, implementation, and testing of electrical powertrain systems.
Essential Job Functions:
- Support the Business Development team in assessing customer vehicle specifications and developing Hyliion hardware specifications
- Identify compatibility issues with target applications
- Work with business development team to interpret customer requirements and develop system and sub-system product specifications
- Lead technical resolution for system level issues and organize engineering problem solving activities to assess problem root cause; implement solutions to improve product reliability
- Provide direction to assembly team, drive continuous improvement on EOL testing and establish pass/fail criteria
- Ensure that final product meets all necessary safety compliance requirements
- Develop standards, requirements, and specifications need for Hyliion designs.
- Interface regularly with project managers and multi-disciplinary team leads to meet project deadlines
- Support the development of key quality and validation documentation including FMEAs, DVP&Rs to document key failure modes, and develop associated product verification/validation plans for assigned subsystems
Job Skills & Technical Knowledge Qualifications:
- Ability to follow instructions, written and verbal, to accomplish needed tasks
- Expertise in problem solving (8Ds) and root cause analysis
- Understanding of automotive powertrain systems including both traditional and series/parallel hybrids
- Competency interpreting electrical wiring and control system schematics/diagrams
- Ability to read, understand, and generate mechanical manufacturing documentation
- Proven expert in automotive industry and associated toolset expertise (FMEAs, DVP&Rs)
- High & low volume manufacturing experience
- Understanding of vibration (including modal, random, static, and sinusoidal) and vibration reduction strategies highly advantageous
- Bachelor s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
- Experience working in automotive manufacturing line
- 5+ years of experience developing technical products working in a team environment
- Experience leading problem solving, technical projects including managing schedules and setting key project tasks/milestones
- Knowledge of Class 8 trucks
- Knowledge of EE architecture
- Ability to operate CAN / OBD tools
- Master s degree in Engineering
- Strong follow-through and self-starting nature
- Ability to communicate with customers (internal and external) in an effective and positive way both written and verbally, to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments
- Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions
- Position will involve travel (40% of time) to visit, work with, and evaluate engineering providers and hardware suppliers
- Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines
- Occasionally lift and/ or move up to 30 pounds.
