Summary

The Senior Drilling Engineer is responsible for working directly with the manager on the well design and the technical execution of the drilling project. The incumbent will be responsible for completing assignments independently and under general supervision including; preparing project timelines, cost estimates and procedures, reviewing reports and records for accuracy, tracking project costs, and participate in post project analysis.  The incumbent will have both the leadership, technical and communication skills to interface with both field and office-based staff and will also be self-motivated, team oriented, and results focused.   The Senior Drilling Engineer will:

  • Prepare project timelines, cost estimates and procedures, review reports and records for accuracy, track project costs, verify invoices and may participate in post project analysis
  • Follow plans, policies and programs to optimize business unit performance
  • Assume project management responsibilities and/or mentor less experienced staff. 
  • Assist in development and execution of programs for non-critical operations and possibly some critical operations
  • Participate in field activities and intermediate understanding of technologies and operations
  • Understand and properly apply HSE guidelines
  • Prepare field reviews, wellbore schematics, cost estimates and procedures for downhole and surface operations; analysis of production and pressure data; basic understanding of reservoir engineering and economic evaluations
  • Maintain membership and participation in industry society
  • Provide technical input and support in the development and administration of plans, policies and programs to optimize goals and assets
  • Develop well plans and direct the daily activities for horizontal, directional, and vertical drilling operations within both geographically and geologically diverse areas
  • Compile, review, and analyze cost and performance data associated with drilling activities to optimize drilling operations
  • Conduct self-directed preliminary research to determine optimum drilling design and operations parameters based on offset data and other operator information 
  • Provide innovative technical support to drilling team to address specific issues which arise during planning and during operations phases
  • Generate cost estimates and performs risk analysis for horizontal and vertical air and/or fluid drilling operations
  • Complete routine-moderately complex drilling engineering assignments independently
  • Analyze drilling data and makes recommendations for drilling optimization and cost reduction
  • Collaborate with regulatory and geological/geophysical groups to construct appropriate well plans and Applications for Permits to Drill
  • Work with the Drilling Superintendent, Well-site Supervisors and contractors to execute well plans in the safest and most cost-effective manner
  • Provide oversight to ensure compliance with company HSE policies
  • Provide leadership in promoting a safe and environmentally responsible drilling operation
  • Assure all operations are conducted according to respective regulatory requirements
  • Be responsible for mentoring less experienced Drilling Engineers and other technical staff members on the team
  • Generate End of Well reports

Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Petroleum Engineering a plus
  • Strong technical and interpersonal skills
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent, full-time basis
  • 4-10 years or more of industry experience in drilling operations with 3-5 years of Haynesville drilling experience
  • 4-10  years or more of industry engineering experience in drilling planning and operations with 3-5 years in the Haynesville
  • 4-10 years of direct experience working in a multi-discipline team environment
