KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools is part of the growing network of KIPP Public Schools. KIPP Public Schools is a national network of free, open enrollment, college-preparatory public schools dedicated to supporting all students to reach their highest aspirations. There are 270 KIPP schools across the nation serving more than 120,000students. Nationally, KIPP students have a 4X higher graduation rate than that of their peers.
KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates eleven KIPP schools including four primary schools, five middle schools, one K-8 school, and one high school, as well as the KIPP Forward program which supports students through college, career, and beyond.
KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools is currently seeking a strategic and dynamic Managing Director of School Operations (MDSO). Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the MDSO will be responsible for coaching Directors of Operations (DOOs) to operational excellence. The MDSO will also serve as a partner to the Managing Director of Regional Operations (MDRO) and will have the ability to coordinate resources with the needs of every school. They will also play an active role in designing and executing centrally led initiatives to implement systems and practices that enhance the organization’s efficiency and scalability.
As a KIPP Metro Atlanta, Managing Director of School Operations your core responsibilities include:
Management and Leadership
Actively mentors and coaches Directors of Operations. Serves as an on-call resource, thought partner, problem solver, and coach.
Hold high standards for Directors of Operations while empowering them to proactively and creatively problem-solve, and model versatility and collaboration for the organization.
Recruits, mentors and supports a diverse and exceptional team of professionals. Diligently seeks opportunities for professional development, acting as a coach and sounding board, and serves as an organizational role model in cultivating a culture of high expectations and support.
Thoughtfully considers the impact of decisions, and facilitates resolutions that protect the organization’s interests and prioritizes student needs.
In partnership with school principals, annually authors performance evaluations, and closely monitors progress relative to operational excellence metrics.
Proactively identifies operational areas in need of improvement and develops and implements large-scale enhancements to systems and processes to improve efficiency in key operational areas.
Identifies professional development opportunities for DOOs and promotes cross-training among DOOs across the network.
Support DOOs in developing well-rounded, cross-functional, excellent school operations teams.

Strategic Growth
Advise the Support Team on how to scale school operations for growth.
Develop and implement plans to select, onboard, develop and support new DOOs.
Supports DOOs in developing and implementing plans to select, onboard, develop and support new school operations staff.
Operations Leadership and Support
School Operations
Regularly meets and collaborates with the Managing Director of Regional Operations or Regional Support Team department leaders (Finance, Technology, Facilities, Nutrition, Academic, Talent, Data) to identify and work on operational efficiencies or improvement projects.
Meet and collaborate with school-based leaders to identify opportunities for organizational improvement.
School Readiness & Start-Up
Works closely with schools to prepare for school opening each year (i.e. ordering furniture, equipment, annual training, and classroom supplies) and ensures that the school works with the Managing Director of Regional Operations to ensure student services are prepared for day one.
Student Data Management
Provide oversight and support to school-based operations teams around effective data management, ensures that strong practices are in place for the collection and accurate recording of all student data.
Compliance & Authorizer Relations
Ensures that schools are in compliance with all local, state, and federal requirements.
Serve as the primary liaison with Atlanta Public Schools and Fulton County Schools for all school-level compliance requirements including student and staff data, reporting, and safety.
Ensures required audits are completed with fidelity and accuracy.
Budget and Finance
In partnership with Finance ensures that the budget for each school is managed effectively; actively participates in the annual budgeting process.
Ensures that schools and collaborate on budgeting process and adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures.
Other
Supports the work of the Chief Operating Officer in identifying and developing network-wide system improvements to support KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools growth, creating more efficiencies while still allowing for freedom and innovation at the schools.
Manages effective implementation of annual operational projects.

Bachelor’s degree required
Master’s degree preferred
Minimum 10 years of work experience with 5 years of supervisory and management experience, preferably in a large, dynamic, mission-driven organization
Strong project and time management skills
Ability to effectively backwards plan, manage multiple priorities with great attention to detail, and deliver consistent and timely results
Strong strategic and analytical skills with an aptitude for systems-building
Sense of humility, urgency, and customer service mindset
Strong ability to proactively solve problems and make decisions quickly
Team player with strong interpersonal and stakeholder management and relationship building skills
Ability to lead, influence, and hold others accountable to high standards of academic and operational excellence
Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Power Point and Microsoft Excel
Desire to continuously learn and increase effectiveness as a professional
