Job Description


Medical Assistant


We are seeking a Medical Assistant/Front Desk Receptionist for one of our busy Primary Care offices. You will be responsible for clinical (Medical Assistant) and clerical (front desk) duties. You will be required to commute to both our Hartford and South Windsor location on set days.


I. Job Summary


Prepares patients for examination and treatment and performs advanced administrative and clerical duties with a high degree of proficiency.


II. Principal Clinical Duties and Responsibilities


A. Receives, greets and triages patients in person or on telephone.


B. Escorts patients to exam room, prepares patient for examination, documents presenting problems and patient's complaints.


C. Records appropriate information in patient's chart that is not covered by dictation notes.


D. Takes vital signs and records in patient's chart.


E. Ensures that testing results and other pertinent data is on the patient record prior to physician entering exam room to evaluate the patient.


F. Prepares the exam and treatment rooms, including instrument, supplies and protective devices for exam and testing. Maintains and stocks supplies. Cleans and sterilizes instruments in accordance with infection control and manufacturer recommendations.


G. Assists the physician in remaining on time with the appointment schedule.


H. Assists with obtaining specimens, labeling and dispositioning to the laboratory.


I. Completes discharge of patient from exam room including written instructions and follow-up appointment and/or referral information.


J. Assists the physician with diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed.


K. Provides patient instruction using pre-approved patient education materials for the respective practice and documents action in the medical chart.


L. Meets requirements for handling and disposing of bio-hazardous waste.


M. Track the receipt of diagnostic results including the reporting of the results by the physician to the patient.


N. Assists in scheduling patients for testing procedures and providing patient instructions specific to test.


0. Attends required meetings and in-services.


P. Performs other duties as assigned.

R. Verifies insurance coverage


S. Answers and triages phone calls.
