Job Description

Objective of this position: As an ambassador of Jesus Christ, the Nurse Manager has the responsibility for managing all nursing operations of the Trenton pregnancy center in a smooth and professional manner. This includes the training and management of all volunteers and the implementation of necessary programs to meet client needs.

  • Holds a current Registered Nurse s license in good standing with the NJ Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities: The Nurse Manager provides support and care to clients and maintains professional standards of care following the ANA Code of Ethics. Under the general supervision of the Director, the Nurse Manager is responsible for immediate supervision of a wide variety of functions, planning and performing direct and indirect nursing interventions, and is responsible for supervising, organizing, planning, assessing and monitoring the medical services provided by Options for Women. The Nurse Manager also works in conjunction with physicians, nurses, and lay counselors to assure that clients are receiving the best medical, nursing and psychosocial care possible.

Reports to: Options for Women Trenton Director.

Time Commitment: 20 hours per week or as agreed.

DUTIES

Management:

  • Develops, maintains, reviews and updates clinic policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of nursing methods and practices in relation to the prevention and treatment of disease, safety and infection control, clinical systems, supplies and equipment.
  • Assures compliance with infection control guidelines. Nursing Care:
  • Organizes, directs, supervises and evaluates medical professional personnel.
  • Oversees nursing services in the center.
  • Provides nursing care: assesses client needs and makes nursing judgments that reflect safe nursing practices.
  • Maintains accurate records, care-plans and follow through on physician s orders.
  • Provides education for patient and family to develop an understanding of their health condition.
  • Oversees and performs pregnancy tests and verifications and STD testing and treatment.
  • Assures timely review by physician and client follow-up of ultrasound scans.
  • Works in partnership with the NJ Health Department to provide STD tests, lab results and treatment.

Staff Development: Recruits qualified medical team volunteers to meet the center s needs. Oversees training and orientation of medical volunteers. Participates in establishing and conducting in-service staff meetings. Along with Director, evaluates center medical services, policies, and protocols. Public Relations: Represents Options for Women in the community as delegated by the Director. Attends conferences that offer professional training and information pertinent to Options for Women s practices. Participates in Options for Women fundraising events.

Personal Development: Maintains professional license. Increases knowledge of management, obstetrical and gynecological care and women s health issues.
