The Lead Discovery Department at Editas Medicine is looking to add a Senior Software Engineer to help with continued support of our scientific research teams. This individual will have a hand in continued development of our LIMS, data management, and lab automation systems. This is a unique role where a seasoned Software Engineer can help develop programs for an internal end-user and be a part of a larger effort to create transformative treatments for patients with debilitating disease.


Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities


  • Develop Laboratory Information Management Software (LIMS) to support scientists in research and GxP settings, orchestrating data management, pipelines, lab automation and results following FAIR principles.
  • Manage projects by interacting with scientists and translating their needs into software design and tools. Estimate timelines in a biotech environment
  • Regularly communicate with scientists, bioinformaticians and others to understand issues and proactively adjust deliverables to meet those needs.
  • Recommend architectural improvements to meet business and system goals. Improve development process.
  • Own parts of the deployed application - taking lead in identifying enhancements, system fixes and optimizations.
  • Assist in various validation activities, and help drive Quality documentation/processes for regulated environments.
  • Train and mentor more junior staff.


Requirements


Knowledge, Skills & Capabilities:


  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing a LIMS to handle a variety of lab functions and experiments.
  • Experience with modern, agile development practices, Java and web services development, Tableau, and cloud computing. Be familiar with terms like JSON, GIT, Jersey, AWS, Swagger, React, web services, serverless and HTML5.
  • Familiar and knowledgeable with AWS - Lambda, Batch, Athena, Step Functions, RDS, Aurora, SQS, etc. Developed applications using AWS SDK and CDK.
  • Knowledge and experience managing scientific data and processes, building automation, and interacting with scientists and researchers.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently, prioritizing appropriately.


Education & Relevant Work Experience


  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or relevant software engineering discipline
  • Minimum 8-11 years professional experience (title commensurate with experience)
  • Minimum 5 years of related industry experience, preferably some in a GxP regulated setting (Laboratory, Quality, Validation)
  • Proficient with informatics, LIMS, laboratory automation and data management
  • Java, web services, web design, cloud (AWS), DevOps and Unix-based computing
