Staff Network Engineer - Remote
*prefer San Antonio, TX, but open to remote locations*
We are seeking a mid- to senior-level network engineer to support and grow Itrons production networks and customer environment. In this role you will be managing data center and WAN networking, network security, VPN. The ideal candidate will be able to interface with internal and external customers for ticket resolution as well as plan and execute project work. The candidate should have a strong knowledge of key network and security protocols, efficient administration techniques, and troubleshooting abilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute to mature practices in security, administration, capacity planning, reporting, monitoring, automation, and maintenance among network and telecom
Respond efficiently to support requests
Administer firewalls, client VPN, and security perimeter
Administer LAN and WAN services including standing VPN tunnels
Use best practices in network administration, configuration, and support
Participate in pager response
Troubleshoot and resolve network and telecom issues
Document operational processes and network design to ensure consistency
College degree (BA or BS) in a computer science or engineering field, or equivalent experience
Minimum of 5 years network design and management experience
A solid understanding of the OSI network model, Ethernet, and TCP/IP networking. IPv6 highly desirable.
Knowledge of routing and security protocols including BGP, OSPF, Spanning Tree, 802.1Q, IPSEC, etc.
Knowledge of TCP/IP and UDP-based services including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, SSH, FTP, SMTP, SNMP, etc.
Ability to administer Cisco platforms and operating systems for routing, switching, and firewalling. Cisco Nexus experience highly desirable.
Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple problems and issues with minimal supervision. Have excellent organizational skills, a teamwork approach to work but also act independently to solve problems when necessary
Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills, resiliency in the face of continual change, and ability to handle high demands
Good oral and written English communication skills, strong interpersonal skills
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and after hours work
Experience in maintaining and configuring network monitoring and reporting systems highly desirable.
Basic Linux and Windows administration skills desirable.
Basic Scripting knowledge desirable
Working Conditions: This position will require after-hours pager duty
Travel: 10 - 30%
